Just wondering has anyone had any experience in ripping DVDs to MPEG/Quicktime etc? What application do you find to be the best?

handbrake or mac the ripper are great for making backups of your own DVD material.

Thanks. I've tried both. I didn't realise there was a 'handbrake instant' sounds handy...

Mac the ripper is good and fast but doesn't compress the files (as far as i know of) so you need to use something like ffmpeg.

I heard that you can get software that you just drag DVD content to the app and it converts them to mpeg . Sounds possible but I don't know if it actually exists...

I use PSPWare to convert the files from MacTheRipper to scaled down MP4 files for the PSP, Toast will also do a similar job.

Reckon MPEG Streamclip is about the best there is, outputs to almost anything although sometimes you'll get a dodgy mpeg 1 muxed that it cant import and convert. Other than that iSquint is pretty good for mp4/H264 output.
