After discovering something odd just offshore, Jack and Sayid come up with a plan to confront "The Others" and hopefully get Walt back. At the same time there will be an answer to the question of where Michael has been and resolution of him and Walt. Meanwhile, Eko and Locke come to blows as Locke makes a potentially cataclysmic decision regarding the "button" and the hatch. Lastly, Desmond returns and he sheds some more light on his experience on the island in the three years prior to when Locke came down into that hatch.

As I said in another thread, I'm dissapointed that rte chose not to do a double bill. Part 1 is fairly poor and just scrapes a 6 for me. It's just there to build people up for part 2, but don't worry, I'm sure part two'll make up for it. ;)

No need for a link to the US thread for this one me thinks :D
Good stuff. I felt a bit sad when Locke was being an abused housewife, but otherwise he was mighty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭nedward

Lord, the amount of spoilers on the US thread. Crap ep though. I'd give it a 5.

    Bloody temptation....

Is Locke becoming like Michael, with his mad fixation? What happens if the blast doors don't come up for him?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭Silage

I thought that was a great first part, and if the rest is better than that its gonna be unreal! That gets a nine from me. Really tense and the backstory was great. Its brilliant to see dessy back. What a legend!

I can't believe what they showed in the trailer after the episode, omg they just ruined a part of it on me, anyone can deduce what's going to happen through the trailer. RTE idiots, they should have shown it all.

And the way the first part ended, it was so edited.

    You mean Ecko?

Thought it was a good eppy. Liked the fact Desmond came back. Now I wanna know how he got his boat back!

And where the hell do I recognise the guy who rescued Desmond!?

Well, there's the disapointment of RTÉ choosing to do it in two parts that's making me giving it a 7. We did get a fair bit of insight into Desmond, we kinda have questyion about this "four toed foot" statue and we're left wondering what happenes next:

GO RAIBH MAITH AGAT, RADIÓ TELIFÍS EIREANN!

What I found most interesting is that Desmond new that if he travelled due west for 2 weeks and a half at 9 knots that he would reach Fiji. That gives a big clue to where the lost island may be

    2.5 weeks = 420hours

He said his speed was 9 knots, which is nine nautical miles per hour, so thats

    9 x 420 = 3780 nautical miles = 4350miles (rounded off)

So from this we know that the lost island is 4350miles east of Fiji :)

Though this assumes that he had the boat sailing 24 hours, 7 days a week, which probably isnt true, but Desmond was in the bottom of the boat, away from the wheel when his boat was spotted and he was found

Has to be said, what in the name of holy tap dancing jesus was the story with that foot?!?! It was so bizarre, maybe just the writers trying to wreck our heads again....
Weird seeing Libby pop up again, did her nose seem straighter to anyone else?

I'm surprised that no-one went psycho when Michael said he killed AL and Libby, thought maybe Sawyer or even Hurley would have socked him. Liked the way Jack went all crazy and put Michael on the spot, beginning to go up a little in my estimation!

I wonder though if Locke will have the balls NOT to press the button after having such a belief in them beforehand, there must still be some doubt there.
Also, how's little Charlie gonna help Ecko get the door open? Will we see the return of mean Ecko using Charlie as a hostage?

He was the Marine that Sayid was captured by after they took over his garrison in sayid's flashback. I guess it also explains the U.S. knife that Ana Lucia had earlier in the series.

I thought he looked familiar, but I quickly forgot it. I think he was in the medical centre when Claire was there. I think I remember him talking to Ethan, if that's his name. Des said he died. Did Desmond infect him?

Nah. You're thinking of Zeke (or whatever they call him) the guy who told Jack that "this is *our* island". I thought it was him too at first.

I like the mutant foot Colussus of Rhodes style statue. I reckon that's going to be something that'll wait until next season to explain. I just hope that the timer isn't going to run down just as the season ends - I just want to know if anything at all will happen if they let it run out.

Also - will we see Henry Gale again? And how'd Libby end up in the nut house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭Evil_Bilbo

what was the guy's name that rescued desmond? I dont think it was Kelvin? (wasnt that who he said was down in the hatch with him for the first while?) I was hoping it'd be henry when he took the mask off!!

Loved the bit where he was washed up and all the yellow suited dudes came out to rescue him - that was slick. The 4 toed statue - probably a "new mystery" thrown in to extend the series to about 5 seasons. Hope we finally find out what happens when you dont push the button (It cant be nothing, can it?) Maybe the result of not pushing the button will co-incide with the losties arriving at the others camp, and something major will go down. then again this is lost, so they probably wont even get as far as the countdown till season 6.

Saw the trailer for the final ep - full of spoilers, but looks deadly all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭TarfHead

Bear with me - I'm a bit slow me.

The woman who gave Desmond the boat - that was Libby (Elizabeth) with a different haircut.

    Yes ?

    No ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

after not seeing last weeks ep I don't think I missed all that much. Loved this ep. hate the way its in two parts. Typical RTE I saw the spoiler filled trailer as well its truely ruined, and to top it all off I'm away next monday so I'll miss it thank God for C4.

Whats with the giant foot I agree with sayid, "Whats more disturbing seeing a broken statue of a leg or a 4 toed leg

Kelvin was in Sayids flashbacks, the army guy who let him go free at the end.

See me? I'm smart me. So I turned off the TV before the trailer for next week's came on.

So please, don't post any spoilers that you picked up from the trailer. I'm pretty busy this week so will probably won't be watching TV again until next Monday night so it'll all be a big shock for me.

He is the guy in the Army who gets Sayid to work for the US to interogate / torture his old commander.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,784 ✭✭✭im...LOST

OMG the spoilers at the end of the episode were awful.
I mean Ive already seen the next ep but that just told ya all that was gonna happen.
    Stupid RTE!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭JoeyJJ

See how libby died just before Des returns... I know a few people have met before the crash and remember each other but most of the meetings involve Jack anyone else that has a chance meeting before they realise that person dies. (Jack and Des, Jack and Anna etc.)

Hurley was close to knowing where he met Libby and she dies just before Des returns. Any others?

I loved it, so much stuff, aarrghhhhhh I hate the feckers for leaving it hanging till next week, but I know it will be even worse then....

I'm with Jeff Lebowski, I switch it off straight away as I know RTE trailers have a habit of fecking things up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭soma

I also switched the TV over as the episode ended - seriously guys have you learned nothing from watching RTE..? You have only yourselves to blame.

As for the ep - the thing that really bugged me was the extreme under-reaction
when mike admitted he killed two of their mates. FFS their reaction was more akin to him telling them he'd shot the washing machines in the hatch as opposed to taking two innocent lives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

I know they just turned on Jack. But don't worry Jack has a plan

Yep I've learned at this stage to turn to another channel as soon as the credits start rolling! It was hard to get excited about last night, knowing that we'd have to wait another week for the conclusion. So with that in mind I wasn't expecting a whole lot to be revealed in this 'episode'.
Still, a few interesting things. Like the way Libby was in Desmond's back story. We now have that and the whole psych-ward story, surely Libby is still somehow a significant character (even if she is dead).
That foot statue was bizarre (four toes??)
Can't think of any other points off the top of my head. I really wish Locke would return to his calm, collected season 1 self. He was my favourite.

Not going to vote on this poll, as the episode was meant to be seen as a whole. I'll vote next week on what I thought of the finale in its totality. Anyway, looking forward to next week!

That was the DIA agent who persuaded Sayeed to torture his superior officer in Iraq.

I can't believe those morons in RTE revealed what is going to happen next week.

Given that Libby's (short for Elizabeth) dead husband is called David - does anyone else think he could be the mysterious 'Dave' that Hurley sees (from the mental institution and recently on the island), or am I, as usual, reading far too much into this? :)

You're reading far too much into it. Dave from the mental institution and the island was just a manifestation of Hurley's subconscious, the part that didn't want him to get better.

He's the person I thought of too. The frequency of coincidences/crossed paths in Lost makes me do this as soon as I hear a new name, so I started thinking if there had ever been any David mentioned before and he's all I came up with. But I don't think there's any connection there at all really...

I thought of that too and I've a strong feeling that Dave WAS actually a real person, but left the mental home or died or whatever. But Hurley kept an imaginary one alive to represent that side of him (or whatever the hell it was). Someone will have to watch that ep again and report back......
If he was real, and Lib was in the mental home too, well then....

    Just thought of something.

Desmond referred to The Others as 'the hostiles'. Does this mean that they're nothing to do with Dharma or do you think that they could be and he was just told perhaps that there was a hostile element on the island. Of course if he had stayed in the hatch all the time he would hardly have run into them - maybe Kelvin told him about them?

    Thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭Evil_Bilbo

    Interesting point.

maybe the dudes in the yellow suits are the dharma crowd - the "others" or hostiles (as kelvin probably refered to them when talking to desmond) could actually be some kind of militant environmental activists who are trying to bring down the dharma initiative (possibly for its un-ethical research).

Didnt notice any others in the yellow suits (was really hoping the guy who rescued desmond and took his mask off would be henry gale though!)

edit - then again - "the hostiles" is usually what a bunch of people who invade a country or island call the indigenous or local people isnt it? suppose this makes sense too.

    ditto!

I thought this was a good episode but I'd say part 2 is the real winner. Haven't seen it but of course, rte ads spoilt it for me! Anyways, I liked this episode, especially the bit with Libby! I didnt even recognise her - she looked so different! It was a nice touch though because Libby was one of my favourite characters (now she's dead *sniffle*)

It annoyed me too that nobody cared that michael shot 2 people...

Does Hurley have an aggressive bone in his body? Firstly, he didn't want to go into the jungle to get the others for killing Libby, and even after finding out that had Michael killed her, he barely reacted. You'd think he would at least take a swing at the man!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!

oh and was it just me or was Desmond dragged to the hatch by a couple of people in yellow suits, and not just Kelvin...?

After everything Sayid has been through, it has to make you laugh that a four toed statue freaks him out more than anything else..

I thought it was just Kelvin in a suit, and Desmonds vision was blurred and distorted. I never assumed there was more than one yellow suit, it was some sort of time lapse camera trickery...???...

I found a screencap on Lost-media.com and it was a camera trick there is only on clear figure and 3/4 blurry images of the yellow suit in the background.
