I'm trying to gain weight/muscle and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to use the treadmill, I was thinking if i use it i'd lose weight more than gain muscle. Should i just stick to the weight before starting on the treadmill?

Also what is a good exercise for the lower back, calves? My shoulder bones and collar bone are very visible also , does anyone know a good exercise for gaining muscle around that area?

What food should I eat while gaining weight, I'm eating high protein foods like tuna, eggs and soya milk. Should I be taking other foods other than protien foods?

You need to eat more calories than you use. Treadmill work is fine as long as you eat more food to make up for it. Many bodybuilders do low intensity treadmill work as they can burn fat without using up many calories.

To be honest it sounds like you need more mass generally. Check out the fitness links (stickied) and you'll find a programme soon enough.

Yes you need to work out how many calories you need, again there is a sticky on diet which will help you work out what you need. You do need to eat protein (most people say start at 1 gram every day for every lb of lean body mass you have), but calories are also important so work out how many you need. Soya milk contains phyto-estrogens so don't go nuts on the stuff.

I'm supposed to take in 3500 calories a week which is 500 a day.

Try 3000 a day mate ;). There are probably 500cals in a snickers bar.

In reality you probably need around 2200-2500+ per day (Depending on height). Calves are an absolute B*itch and having good calves initially will depend a lot on genetics (at least compared to other muscles IMO), they take a lot of work and are generally trained differently to other muscles; look at cyclists and joggers, generally good calf muscles. As Ta-ha said, build some general mass first, then worry about more direct work such as calves.

As for what foods you should eat, look around in the stickies and read the back of food labels (BTW, just because a snickers bar has 500 calories does NOT make it good! Just incase...!).

Do weights first, then if you want do some low intensity cardio but have a protein shake before you start cardio.

Deadlifts and Good mornings are excellent for building lower back.
My shoulder bones and collar bone are very visible also , does anyone know a good exercise for gaining muscle around that area?
You could try doing shoulder raises, shrugs, military presses and upper pectoral exercises to build this area up more.

you could eat more lean protein sources such as turkey and chicken(grilled). Eat plenty of carbohydrates, particularly starchy and also eat some good fat foods such as nuts, peanut butter etc.

I was reading your later post about eating 3500 cals a week? at your age WITHOUT weightlifting you should be eating approx 2500 calories or more a DAY anyway since your still growing, then add weightlifting on top of that you should be getting in approx 4000 calories a day! Up your food intake dramatically and you should start noticing more meat on yourself then. Obviously don't start munching into snack bars to up your calories, good clean food is the way to go. And Smelly irishman is right, calves are hard as hell to work on and develop, running or cycling should help devlop calf muscles better than doing calf raises.

Definitly not the perfect diet, but certainly in the 2000-3000 range.
