Gardaí out to catch easy targets

The N4 speed camera van was out shooting ducks in a barrel today.

It was parked just before the esso garage just after M50 roundabout on the way into the city center.

60kph zone. I was driving along in a long line of cars and when i seen the van I looked down and was doing around 70kph as would everyone else.

I say the must have ran out of film today with the amount of people they would catch there.

If they wanted really easy targets they'd do the Naas road roadworks every weekend. Most drivers would be doing far more than 10Kph over the 60Kph speed limit.

    It's Gardaí not Gardas.

I've often noticed, when people are saying things like "They're out to catch easy targets" perhaps you should just obey the speed limit instead of moaning.

They don't have the resources to process that many tickets, particularly in the case of the tiny % who do not pay the notice but go to court with it.

In China I heard that you have to open a bank account to get a driving license. When you get stopped they swipe your license and <Bip> fine paid.

It was on RTE radio 1, a caller I think so not authoritive.

Also said that wern't handing out any more motorbike licenses, to cut down on motocyclist deaths.

In Malaysia, they take the readings at one location on the motorway and set up a road block about 30km down the road (with no exits) and pull over all the offenders. Makes it easier to confirm the identity of the drivers. They also weed out the untaxed/uninsured/unlicensed while they're at it.

THe logic is simple those who would speed will do so everywhere. Go to a place you catch a lot of people speeding and you catch people who speed everywhere.

Now you can argue all you like about how people only speed when they think it is safe to do so but that is the point the speed limit isn't optional any where.

    The logic is sound.

Why would anyone set out to catch the really hard targets? Like, lets lurk on a quiet borren with a 90 degree bend, hoping someone comes around it at 81 km/h.

I corrected the spelling in the thread title - back on topic.

The Gardaí have quota's to fill, thus take some of the "easy targets", instead of doing their job, and stopping the speeders in the estates, or villages.

I generally do. (no ones perfect) But theres no doubt a lot of speed limits are inappropriate and the Gardaí seem to take advange of that. That said they send to ignore people within 10-15% of the limit. Unless you get a grumpy one.

I reckon (yes its a guess) about 80-90% break the limits by 10-20%. Including people who moralise about speeding. But theres about 10-20% of people who just ignore the rules completely and regularly drive at 30-60% over the limit.

Then solve that, don't complain. Here's one I've done http://www.dublincity.ie/living_in_the_city/getting_around/by_car/traffic_management/speed_limits.asp

Don't be so condescending. Its a simple point of view shared by many, and has been reported in the media many times. Its relevent IMO to this thread. I intend taking pictures of the crazy limits in my area, once I get a moment. But thanks for the link. I've fought my fair share of anti stupidity battles with the various authorities, it can be an amusing hobby, if not that fruitful.
