D500 - Unbrand it yourself

A couple of recent posts mentioned problems using Meteor SIMs in a branded D500.

I came across the following information on how to debrand it yourself, so hopefully this will be use to some people:

    What is De-branding ?
De-branding basically means removing awful operator firmware, and replacing it with the manufacturers original firmware. Hence converting your phone to the full spec as it was intended by the manufacturer. (the way it should be)!

You Will Need A 9v Com Cable - see http://i2.tinypic.com/so35vm.gif

    For D500 download http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EKUQS9TS
    For D500e download http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C9JGU74U

    Download OneNAND Downloader http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZA3Y3YZR

    - Remove simcard, and make sure you have a fully charged battery (of phone)
    - Connect the cable to the phone and attach 9v battery to cable.
    - Open OneNAND Downloader and hit start. (it will say to power on your phone)
    - Push phone 'on' button shortly.
    - Files are being read. (about 30 sec)
    - You now can do a NOR and NAND backup if you want but you can skip this step. If you do you will get a 30 mb and a 128 mb .hex file. Rename the 30 mb to .cla and the 128 mb to .tfs and you have your own backup.
    - Select 'tfs+bin' and in the browse buttons select the .tfs file and the .bin (or .cla) from the firmware you want to put in your phone.
    - Now hit download.
    - Wait for about 1 hour and your done.

The program will say when it's done. : )

As always use at your own risk!

No, that's a separate cable, which doesn't require the use of a 9V battery.
