Installation files corrupt on new machine

I'm just after building a new PC. AMD 64 X2 4400+. 2GB Ram, 2 X 320GB HDD and XP Pro SP2. I'm having a problem with downloading different programs. Some of them are corrupt when I try to install. The Java JRE package for example just won't install, either from the web or from the downloaded installer. I'm having the same problem with Flash and other programs in that they all appear to be corrupt. When I download to same file to my laptop and transfer it to the PC, the installation works so it seems to be an issue with the download corrupting the installer. Can anyone shed any light on why this would be happening? Thanks!

Is it like flash websites you are having problems with or the actual Flash program? What browser are you running? Its hard to pinpoint a problem like that. I would suggest running a registry cleaner to remove any of the old entries that those installations may have created. CCleaner is one of the better known programs.

let me guess, you have a NF4 mobo, and you are using the Nvidia NIC to download these files, and you have the Nvidia NAM and firewall installed?

Nvidia NIC is known to have MAJOR issues, I had loads of corruption with downloads of exe and rars. I still have a bit of corruption when downloading large files over a few days (4GB+) but all my problems with smaller files have stopped since I uninstalled NAM and the firewall, used drivercleaner to completely remove them, and then downloaded the latest nvidia forceware drivers and chose not to reinstall the NAM and firewall.

Also if your problem persists after you have tried the steps above, try implementing the steps below:
    1. Go to system properties/hardware/<network card>/properties/advanced
    2. Disable checksum offload
    3. Disable Segmentation offload
    4. Set speed/duplex settings to "autonegotiate for 100 FD"

Read into what each of these things do and how nvidia made a mess of trying to implement them.

Also are you overclocking your system at all? Do you have a RAID set up? Are you using SATA drives?

Spot on with my set up. NF4 Mobo, Nvidia NIC and Firewall active. My machine is also shutting down after a couple of hours and I'm getting the BSofD, complaining about a System Driver, NVTCP.sys. Will try out your suggestion above. Thanks!

Where can I get these drivers? All I've been able to find is the forceware graphic drivers.

Go here http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and select the NF4 Platform / nForce drivers for your board. I would have linked to the drivers you need but I don't know if you have SLi or not.

    Hope this help.
