Ive always rested a few days between doing excercises on certain muscles but the other day my mate said that with biceps you can work them multiple days in a row unlike other muscles where you have to give them time to rest, any truth in this

Hmm wouldnt be too sure about that because even though you may only excercise them once a week, maybe twice, with other excercises you do you will be hitting the biceps at some point. So its best to stick with a deidcated bicep/tricep session to only once a week, or biceps on lets say a monday and triceps on a thursday. Bascially for most muscle groups its best to give them time to rest, preferably 2 days, Thats just my opinion..more knowledgeable ppl should be on shortly :D

There are only three types of muscle in the human body skeletal, cardiac and smooth. The muscles most people are intrested in are th skeletal muscle. The property of this muscle is the same accross the board. By that I mean your biceps are composed of the same thing and work the same way as your abs, quads etc. Not a hell of a lot of diffrence in the muscle structure. (different insertions and amount there of but you get the idea).

That means what id true for one muscle s the smae for another. You require recovery time. The biceps are not some incredible unique wonderful muscle that is exempt from the laws of biology and myophysiology.

The only thing that can effect a muscle is the nature of hte predmininant muscle fibre clasification. E.g endurace based or explosove. Your neck for instance has more white endurance fibres than the norm becasue iots supporting your head all day, similar with the calves.

SO how does this effect your workouts and recovery times?

Well first off treat the biceps like any other muscle group, follow kwalsh000's advice above.

One thing though - your muscles only need recovery time IF you are doing enough work to stimulate muscle breakdown and subsequent development. Most people do half assed workouts where they can go right back into the gym and do the same thing everyday - it's becasue they have never lifted enough, under strict form to poperly stimulate the body. In that case it really doesn't mater much and people then come up with silly things like saying your cna work your abs everyday and your biceps....the only thing your can really tuly wokrout everyday is your mind..read a few myology books, understand the origin and insertions of muscles and you'll learn how to quickly put together effecive exercise's to properly stimulate the body.

Then go and learn nutrition becaue of all that hard work is worthless unless you eat right.:D

Sorry watching too much House lately..

A good hard super set of underhand grip chin ups 6-10reps

(full one's please none of this lowering yourself half way down!)

Followed immediately by a barbell curl for the same reps

3-4 sets of that and i think your biceps will need a few days off!

Personally NEVER do triceps/biceps or arm days at all as i get NOTHING out of it i.e. feels like i have not worked out unless i squat, bench, row, chin or press
