RTE Streaming of Munster Final.

This is a broadband issue believe me!

Ok so I can't make the match tomorrow so I have few questions. I can view it online at RTE.ie but my Satellite download is averaging at only between 90 to 100kbps even though I am paying for a "1MB" service

The thing is the quality on Real Player is pure crap, I wonder is there anything I can do to either accelerate my connection or bring higher quality to the screen, The quality of the material is quite bad and is really only watchable when you are standing well back, The eyes seem to add it all together and make it look like a kind of average Aerial TV image which is ok as beggars can't be choosers. I am using Real Player for viewing it?

I wonder is there any other software that would let me view it with better results?

I am on a German IP for Download but I have been experimenting this morning with it and I have tricked it into allowing me view it. I open the Link on Dial-up (BT-Anytime an Irish IP) and then switch on Skydsl when the "open with" window appears and I select Realplayer and it starts streaming and then plays.

Any Help would be appreciated in getting the quality of this improved.

The real streams RTE publish are usually very poor to start with, so you might be getting full quality already.Time to get the aerial out!

Yeah, I'm sure that you won't be able to do anything about it as you're probably getting the max out of it already.

BTW, unless I dig up an open Irish proxy I won't see it due to this :

    Streaming Content

Due to rights obligations , RTE.ie can only provide various video highlights on the Web to residents of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Regrettably the service is not available to residents overseas.

Yeah them streams are pretty crap but are better than nothing, I have an Aerial but the match is being shown nowhere not on RTE or on Setanta, It s only being shown live on the Internet.

I being the only person in my parish lucky enough to have broadband via satellite and none of the pubs have anything and I'm sure they wouldn't show it or have the knowledge of how to anyway especially when it is online. I plan to run a temporary cable from my PC to the TV for the day and could have a bit of a crowd into watch it ala 1950's One TV per parish  :D Thanks for the help and any suggestions on how to improve the quality would be appreciated.

Save you some time: Cork will win by 4 points, the ref has already been advised of this and as soon as Cork are up by the requisite number of points the match will be called. Match fixing Irish style ;)

Amazing isn't it how Gaelic Alcohol Ass. matches if they are close always manage to end in a money generating draw??? Hmmm

    MC ;)

Tried to watch the match on my 2Mb connection but stream was rubbish.
Normally I get a rock solid 2Mb connection.
Watching the match was like watching a slideshow at 2 frames per second.

On the info bar on the RTE2 coverage they apologised for the poor quality, so may not have been your problem,

Yeah the stream was pure cack, It was supposed to start at 3.30 but I didn't get the link until 3.39 after hitting the refresh button a bazillion times. Pure crap It was loading and pausing so I had to settle for Weeshie Fogarty on Radio Kerry instead.

I wouldn't mind but I spent about two hours yesterday experimenting with getting the TV-Out to work on the PC after much difficulty with my ATI card which incidentally decided to keep showing only in Black and white, I eventually found a guide here which allowed me to join a wire between two pins in the scart end of the S-Video to allow colour. After all that trouble the Feed then had some of encryption built into the Real player which would not allow me to view the feed on my Big Telly in the sitting room where I had planned to view the match in luxury. pfft

Word to the Wise Internet TV and Ireland = Trouble

I wonder what was of such importance on TG4 that it couldn't be utilised to give live coverage anyway. Internet TV coverage in a country where broadband lines are like hen teeth. Come on like, I presume I shall have to endure the Radio again the next time out against Longford.

Kerry may have lost Munster but it is hard to keep a good dog down. :D

I managed to connect to it. I tried watching it in WM and Real Player but only RP seemed to connect. An odd pause, but hardly noticeable. Audio was excellent (Smart BB).

The only thing that annoyed me was the inability to change to full screen mode. All I had was a small little box that wasn't resizable. Trying to switch to Theatre Mode in RP caused the initial screen to freeze and the larger screen appeared with no data.

I watched bits of it(just keeping an eye on the score) yesterday using the WM feed on an Eircom BB no problems at all except the tiny size of the screen.

Seemed to be about 20-30 sec behind the radio commentary
