I remember looking into Westnet as a possible BB provider a few months ago. Now that I have my house, I went back to their website last Monday to see about signing up. The website was down. It has been down for the last week. (http://www.westnet.ie)

    Are they still in business?

They are very much alive . Last I heard they were using the good weather and long days to do installs and tended not to be in the office too much .

Where are you , west or midwest ???

    Midwest (Castleconnell)

I just got a PM from John to say that they are still alive and kicking.....

Yea west net are up and running, Paul came out yesterday to do a site survey for my Dad and we have LOS so it looks good. Sounds like a great service for 35 a month especially when compared with what were paying for satellite right now (125 euro a month).

Whats the deal with West net and P2P, are there any other limitations involved?

Thats why I wanted to see the westnet site, shorty. I wanted to know the monthly charge (which you have answered). I also want to know installation charge, speed, cap etc.

I have Johns number, so I might give him a shout over the next few days.

    35 a month for 512kbps- 1mb

    199 installation charge

Maximum cable length from receiver to computer or router 100 metres i think.

Does anyone know whether you can use the service for online gaming on consoles eg xbox live
I know you can use it for computer games as they say it works for that.

My Dad has been trying to contact techinicians for an update on the situation in barnacarrol and he cannot get through to anyone, one number given connected him to a vodafone office,

There is no update to the situation in Barnacarrol. When we can offer service in your area - believe me - you'll be the first to know.

Is there any timescale at all? weeks, months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭shortys94

if you could give a timescale that would be perfect as we are currently wondering on what to do with our satelitte broadband, so could you give me an estimate of time before you enable the barnacarrol community

  • Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 28,831 Mod ✭✭✭✭oscarBravo

I'm sorry, I can't. I understand that it's frustrating, but I'd rather that than give you a timeframe and have you berate me for not meeting it.

Alright then, if we know anyone in the area with interest should they contact the head office, or do you currently have the residents who are interested, they are quite a few houses being built and Ive already been pmed by some one moving into area about it.

  • Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 28,831 Mod ✭✭✭✭oscarBravo

Yes - if anyone contacts us from an area where we don't yet have coverage, we note their details for when the coverage is in place. We have a list of interested parties in your area already.

We'll be providing service as soon as we possibly can, but a number of the factors involved are out of our control, which is why I'm not in a position to offer a timeframe.

What exactly is it that you are waiting for? Are you using the existing mast in Barnacarrol?

I emailed you a total of three times on behalf of relations enquiring as to coverage, and not the courtesy of a reply. Noting details is all well and good.
    PM sent.

I read the thread title and felt that "wild" was missing at the end.

Anyways, if you can't wait for Westnet, why not build your own network where you are and then connect into Westnet after? They might do a backhaul deal with you.
