now iv been told ur ment to get protein into body withing 30 mins at least of ur workout...but say if you have you day split to....shoulders and traps(just an example) and you spend first half of time on traps then second on shoulders...half an hour on each...does that mean that by the end of your workout your traps have already not had protein for 30 mins...so should you after each muscle group take in protein? or does it matter?
if you want me to better explain what i mean please say...im struggling to word it correctly! :)

While there is an argument for the ingestion of carbs and amino acids during a workout for most people it is not very practical.

A whey shake and a good source of fast digesting carbs straight after your workout is fine.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but this post-workout shake - where do I get the carbs from? Can't use fructose with the plan i'm on, should I just throw in some spoonfuls of sugar or does anyone have any better ideas?

Why can't you use fructose? Mix dextrose with it instead then, you can get it in Dunne's or boots for diddly squat - its called Glucose C, there is 81g of dextrose per 100g of it

Why is it iimportant to take carb's post workout, aren't they a source of energy?

I would of thought that through a healthy diet you would easily replace any carbs lost through your workout, surely it would be better to take them pre-workout???

(I don't know alot about nutrition and am just posting my opinion which seems to be miss guided, so please don't shoot me down)

Something about the combination of macronutrients or something....See here: http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magazine/13weekstohardcorefatburningdiet.htm

It says here to take a combination of maltodextrin and dextrous carbs. Googling tells me dextrous carbs are just normal glucose but I can't find anything about maltodextrin. Thanks for the advice on the dunnes supplement

To the last poster that last link should explain the lot

I'm loosing mass, i'm loosing mass i say i am loosing mass!!!

oh and banana with your protien drink is fine AFTER the workout is totally finished. Its not such an emergency.

The real urgency should be lifting weights in good form and progressively lifting heavier

I would also be interested in knowing about carbs post workout.

I take creatine beforehand, no protein. Lots of water before and during.

Protein shake after (2 scoops in fat free milk) and a banana after.

People have been advising me to take 100g carbs after also but that is a lot of carbs and would scew my 40:30:30 balance of protein:carbs:fat

What is the best way? Take a carb suppliment, a glucose stick? Grape juice?

Will this cause an insulin spike leaving you open to gaining fat?
