So what was/will be the song you have for your first dance as husband and wife?

I'd like something a little different, more upbeat. Not too into the slow songs when trying to kick off a party :)

My sister had 'Best of my love' by The Emotions. Really good first song.

Think the Wannadies 'You and Me Song' would be a good one too.

although not engaged yet me and my long term boyfriend have talked about this and for he minute we've settled on amazed. Though it'll probably change by the time we actually get engaged.

Though I am not engaged, nowhere near I know that mine is going to be You do Something to Me - Paul Weller :D

When I got married the first song was Jilted John by Jilted John. Oh how some of us laughed our holes off when it came on. See, the best man was my mate John, and she used to go out with him before I dropped her older sister for her.

She's since dropped me for John's brother.
I'm now with her younger sister.

We had Sting's fields of gold. Not because it's a regular first dance song but because it is a special song for us. For our slow set we had Keane's on a day like today (nearly made first dance song. Amazing song, very appropriate). Even the DJ commented on what a great song it was. We also had David Greys this years love.

How about the Ramones cover version of 'Baby, I love you'. It's brilliant, a friend of mine had it played at their wedding - and it went down really well..

We had "How Do I Live" by Trisha Yearwood - it's from Con Air which was the first film we saw together (spewie!!!)

If it's anything it was always going to be the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows (where I'd be without you)" as it's always been our song. But lately all I think about when I hear it is poligamy!* :(

I also love Sia's "Breath Me" since it was used for the final montage in SFU. It really makes me think about the importance of family and living your life right because eventually you will die. Not as morbid as it sounds, and it is a beautiful track.

*As it's used as the theme tune for Big Love, the HBO series about a Utah man and his 3 wives.

We were undecided between 'I'll come running' by Brian Eno, and 'You can have it all' by Yo La Tengo, but I don't know, this could be a new forerunner. :)

Ok so, after seeing an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond - where Robert gets married and they do a choroegraphed dance for the 1st dance (not really a tight dance set but you know that they took a few classes like :p )

So.. meself and herself are gonna spend ages on a routine for 'I've had the time of my Life' from Dirty Dancing. Maybe I'll even do the lift! :D

Edit - it's supposed to be cheesy btw, cheesy and fun. Hopefully it'll look deadly on the video :D

Getting married in June and the band are playing "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green for our first dance. We both love it.

Although that Dirty Dancing choreography idea is tempting...

"Your face" from the frames. Everyone else was supposed to join in after a minute but they left us out there for the full song. Embarrassing but lovely at the same time :)

I was at a wedding last year where the first song was "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin and the bride and groom had worked out a little dance routine for it. (she was a trained dancer)

It was great, all swing dance stuff, very memorable and a great tune :)

Christina Aguilera-Dirty. Set us off for the wedding night! ;)
Closely followed by Busta Rhymes' Touch It (remix)

    Quality.

About time you two got married!
    <gets shotgun>

Id like this song to be played on the night. Just for the comedy value, what with there being two future mother-in-laws present.

One song I'd definitely consider is Why Don't We Fall In Love from Amerie. Released a few years ago and is modern, upbeat and just such a nice song!! Take a listen to it seriously!! Let me know what ye think. I always get a nice feeling inside me when I hear it!

With or without you by U2
It's our song. I couldn't live with him as we had a long distance relationship when engaged , cork - Dublin then Dublin-Galway. and we couldn't live without eachother as we met each weekend. Finally i moved to Dublin so were together. But weve no date set yet.

I also love especially for you by Kylie
and Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.

    I dunno rlly...

For me, it would have to be something upbeat... I don't like slushy, over-the-top smoochy songs. I'd quite like Queen - You're My Best Friend tbh :)

If I was to have a more "sentimental" number, it would be "The Wonder Of You" by Elvis Presley.. the words are loveleh.

Ours was ''sweet sixteen'' (by the furys) as we met when we were both sixteen......Seemed to go down ok.

There's a song being played on TodayFM at the minute at lunchtime.
It's a cover of an old song. I think the Artic Monkeys do it.

Can't think of the name of it, but it more or less says I'm yours forever, in a 100 different ways throughout the song.

    i.e
I'm yours until 2 & 2 is 3, in other words for eternity.....
    etc, etc, etc....

Although the music wouldn't be everyones cup of tea (not really mine tbh), the words are lovely.

When I was listening, I was thinking "God, that'd make a lovely 1st dance song for someone"

    EDIT:-
    I just found it.
It's called "Baby I'm Yours" & it's on the B side of 'Leave before the Lights come on' by the Artic Monkeys.

    Originally by Barbara Lewis

I've often thought of Nick Cave "Into My Arms" or "Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For?"

I do like the sound of the Ramone's cover version though. It would be nice to have something upbeat.

I'll also definitely make sure that we will have have dance lessons before hand so that we will look good on the night.

This is all going into the mental planning file for future reference.

We had 'Everybody knows' by Westlife. But the one we both remember more is one we danced to later that night 'To make you feel my love' by Garth Brooks. It always make me like I'm right back there

Damn, three pages of posts and no-ones mentioned Marc Cohn!

    True Companion

    *********
Baby I've been searching like everybody else.
Can't say nothing different about myself.
Sometimes I'm an angel, And sometimes I'm cruel,
And when it comes to love, I'm just another fool.

Yes I'll climb a mountain, I'm gonna swim the sea.
There ain't no act of God, girl, could keep you safe from me.
My arms are reaching out, out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion,

    True companion, true companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away.
I've got my heart set on our wedding day.
I've got this vision of a girl in white,
Made my decision that it's you all right.

And when I take your hand, I'll watch my heart set sail.
I'll take my trembling fingers, and I'll lift up your veil.
Then I'll take you home, and with wild abandon,
Make love to you just like a true companion,

    You are my true companion,
I got a true companion, true companion

When the years have done irreparable harm,
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like that couple on the corner do.
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you.

And when I look in your eyes, I'll still see that spark.
Until the shadows fall, until the room grows dark.
Then when I leave this Earth, I'll be with the angels standin'.
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion,

    True companion, true companion.

Got married in June and and we had Neil Young's Harvest Moon as our first dance song.

We both really like the song but when we were up dancing to it we kinda wished we had picked something different to dance to because it just drags on a bit near the end. We were signaling to the DJ to fade the song out after we got past the 4 minute mark :)

Anyway here it is, lovely song if you don't know it:

    Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
    Just like children sleepin
We could dream this night away.

But theres a full moon risin
Lets go dancin in the light
We know where the musics playin
Lets go out and feel the night.

Because Im still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because Im still in love with you
    On this harvest moon.

    When we were strangers
    I watched you from afar
    When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

    But now its gettin late
And the moon is climbin high
    I want to celebrate
See it shinin in your eye.

Because Im still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because Im still in love with you
    On this harvest moon.

Mario - "You should let me love you" is going to be my wedding song if I ever find anyone to marry. The words are lovely and it's got a really nice tune to it.

"You should let me love you, let me be the one to, give you everything you want and need, baby good love and protection, make me your selection, I'll show you the way loves supposed to be"

My Sister had a really romantic song from Shrek (not sure if it was Shrek one or two) but it is a really fantastic, haunting ballad, sorry I can't remember the name but it was a tear jerker.
