    Right, here goes...

I read all the forums before I bought and I knew what to expect, lots of heat, some whining, some occassional mooing and I was happy to deal with all of that but... I have my MBP about 3-4 weeks now and two days ago it started to make this noise.... not a whine, not a moo (I have had those and have listened on forums so I know what they would sound like).. this is... well more of a RATTLE, and a bloody loud one that.

It sounds like a lawnmower. I would guess it is coming from the fan, but it is noisy now for two days solid regardless of how long the machine is on. It only stops when I restart, but it comes back again after a few minutes.

This is what it sounds like at its quietest. Recording taken using the internal mic and wiretap pro so quality is not the best, but you get the idea.

Rang Apple, they said try 'Mac Quiet' thing. I explained it was not a whine or a hum but agreed to try it anyway. Downloaded, ran it, no change. I dont want to send the machine back if I can help it... any thoughts????

It is starting to drive me a little crazy now!

Thats what I was thinking myself, just wanted a second opinion before running to Apple. Hopefully should be easy enough to sort out!!

Cheers for super fast reply ;)

Had this happen to a Wintel laptop once. Your machine will start to over heat if you don't get it sorted.

Send it back, sent my old ibook back before and the service was incredible. Collected by UPS on Tuesday at 10am, sent to England, fixed, returned, using it at 10am on Thursday! :D

Yeah send it off while it's under warranty. Otherwise your Mac wil just go tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick

Then eventually, it'll go tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-BOOM!
