build your own laptop

    does anyone here have any experience of building your own lpatop. i was reading an article about them last night

    the article indicated that you can buy barebones laptop and then kit it out accordingly

    kinda read into it there a while back and had an interest however the barebone lads have most of the stuff installed into it already so kinda defeats the purpose! :rolleyes:

    asus and msi do them. or at least they used to. looked into it myself at one stage. not a lot of kit available in Ireland. I just bought a Sony Vaio in the end.
    There was an article on Tom's Hardware at one stage about it, but it was based in Canada as far as I remember and the parts were easy to come by.

    Can you even save money by building your own?
    If not, it wouldn't be worth it IMHO

    Crowd in Holland here that have some barebones, not sure if they post to Ireland. It doesnt really work out cheaper at all, with the selection of different models they have you should be able to find what you want.

    Whitebox barebones, I think thats the common term for the ASUS ones, the real advantage is in choosing your own specs.

    this was in the last issue of Custom PC, using MSI barebones, you can also get Asus barebones
