Having had no luck with buying a car in the past while, I thought I had finally come across a gem. I was fully prepared to travel down to Carlow to check it out, but when I passed the link around the office and friends - everyone hated it :(

Now it's a very rare car and all I can see is potential written all over it.. but if I buy it and no one wants to get in it, then whats the point. Anyhoo here it is --> http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=455358

    Your thoughts?

If you ask enough people, no car will be good enough.

I see the potential, but the price is a bit stiff, and rarity is not a word I would associate positively with that car and I certainly wouldn't pay for the priviledge !

Buy it if you like it and prove them all wrong !

    Let's face it ...

...other than literally throwing your money out the window, motoring is about the easiest and quickest way to depart with large amounts of your hard earned.

You might as well spend it on something YOU like and enjoy ... who cares about other people's opinion?

South African built Mk1, build in 1996? Am I reading this correctly?

If I am that probably explains the price, a little. Its a nice car, but surely you would want an "authentic" Mk1?

As the other said, if you like it go for it though.

Was thinking the same thing. Agree with ya, If I'd be interested in a Mk1, I'd get a pre-'77 original one myself and tax and insure it as a classic

Agreed. Price is a bit hefty for what it is - Its not a real Mk1. People everywhere will ask you about the reg of it. For the same money you'd pick up a rattling good Mk1 Irish car. See for instance - I know its a cabrio but...

But there are others knocking about.
