Any one know enough about politics to tell me if a government party based on the net would be possible? :)

Forget the technilogical details... they come later.

I'm pretty disappointed this isn't an internet party, in the more common sense of the word

May be the wrong place, I would like to know what the opinion of such a thing would be.

The net would allow for a lot more openness / possible less fu*k ups and A lot more modern.

Like an Online Dáil? Meh, could work, but also could work out horribly....

I mean if After Hours was the Dáil...

So in this case, a server is the Dail.
Someone pulls plug on server = no Dail.

Oh and I'm all up for an internet party, as long as there is lots of drink.

Dean, a candidate in a US presidential election was said to have used the net as his primary way to reach USA citizens. He got contributions for his campaign in the millions USD. Wired magazine has suggested in an issue not too long ago that this is going to be a fundamental part of politics in the future. Also, former Vice President Al Gore is trying to make a comback and challenge the next presidential election in 2008 relying heavily on the net. So your notion of an Internet party may have some merit.

Well since in Ireland you're running a localised constituential campaign. The notion of the 'world wide web' is pretty defunct. You can just as easily reach the people by canvassing them door to door or having a central office.
Sure you could have the party as a whole on the internet but you'd still have to vote them in individually by seat.

What does "based on the net" mean exactly? The members haven't met each other in real life? The members aren't allowed to use other means of communication? The question doesn't really make sense. Every party uses the internet; email for example. They also use phones and paper mail.

I don't understand what it is you're proposing. I suspect you don't understand what it is you're proposing.
