This was posted on http://www.asthmatickitty.com/news.php?newsID=70 about the US tour he's doing in September/October...
For the first time in over a year, Sufjan Stevens is going on tour, bringing with him a talented group of musicians and friends including a small string ensemble and brass section. They will perform a repertoire of familiar songs from Seven Swans, Michigan and Illinois in a new symphonic context. The tour will bring Sufjan and his ensemble to some of the country’s finest theaters, including Nashville’s esteemed Ryman and Los Angeles’ historic Wiltern.

Supporting the tour will be My Brightest Diamond, a moniker for the talented singer-songwriter Shara Worden. Shara has toured extensively in Sufjan’s band, appears on his recordings, and is often his right-hand woman. Shara is also a close friend, creative peer and Brooklyn neighbor to Sufjan. The pomp and pageantry of the previous Illinoismakers tour will be augmented by a nuance, mastery and sophistication of talented new players. But don’t expect to see any cheerleading uniforms or routines. Suit coats, neckties and corsages might be more appropriate; but we aren’t about to issue a dress code.

Sufjan would also like to take this opportunity on tour to debut a few new pieces.

I'll be at the Olympia if I can get tickets, may head over the the Barbican in London if I can't and do a family visit during that weekend while I'm there.

Are tickets on sale for this yet? Ticketmaster isn't listing the gig as far as I can see.

That's a good sign that they're not on sale

Tickets on sale next Wednesday July 19th.

That's ****! I dont get paid til Thursday and I'm up now to buy Daft Punk tickets! Who puts tickets on sale on a Wednesday? Seriously!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Id say it will take a few days to sell out because of this. Even Sigur Ros didnt sell out the Olympia instantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,290 ✭✭✭damien

Bollox, I'm in New York for this.
    Oh well.

I don't think so, I'd guess this will be very fast sellout, Chicago has been played off the air, he is THE man of the moment, I don't know how many people kicked themselves for missing the Village gig.

Looks like I'll be up bright and early on Wednesday then- yay, can't wait for this gig!

    Well me for one. :(

I don't think it'll be an instant sell out. He's well known but not that well known. I'll be there regardless though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

At the time yeh was annoyed I missed the Village gig but in retrospect the Village is a horrible venue. Im much happier that Ill be seeing him in the Olympia for the first time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

    Well me for one. :(
Me too, I waited a year for him to come back and it turns out i'm going to miss this now as well :( , my only hope is he comes down with a bug and has to reschedules or something *evil*

me hopes not, they'll get more in at a standing gig, i don't think MCD have their heads screwed on lately.

it was the same with jose gonzalez they could of gotten another 200-300 people in if it was standing.

he wants it on the american leg

its so he can fit his string section

won't be an immediate sell out me thinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

but surely to god the stage in the olympia is big enough for the string section, unless he wants it like the way you see the string section at an opera ie down below the stage.

I'll be buying seats anyway. Its hardly like you'll be rocking out to Sufjan.

Yeah but if it's standing then you and your friends can buy tickets at different times and still be together at the gig

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,037 ✭✭✭SteM

There are some gigs at the Olympia that are suited to being seated and I think Sufjan would be one of them. Saw him in the Village and he was fantastic and had tickets to see him in the DHG a few fears back but couldn't make it that night. I'm not missing this gig and will be going for tickets in the circle.

If it's seated, what's the best section to go for?

And is there any trouble getting in under 18?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

you'll be able to walk straight in tbh, olympia aren't as strict as others.

they do the sensible thing and check id only if you going to buy drink

It says tickets not available yet. Please say that's cause they haven't gone on sale yet as opposed to them selling out.
