Cool - we're sorting out some bits of info right now so once its ready I'll send you it via PM. What kind of places where you thinking - we've permission to check out somewhere really really interesting in the centre of the town (as soon as we get the team together that is).

Carlow is a good place for this, the palce is freakey sometimes.

    people blame the old Gaol

The Old Goal has a lot history behind it all right. Especially Lucinda Sly the last woman to be hanged there. She was supposed to have put a curse on the young men of the town that they would all die young. I remember a few years back there when 3-4 young men hung themselves within a short time. A lot of people seemed to start to talk about her curse.

The ruin of Rochford castle is also a very scary place. Hundreds of women and children where put to their death there. I read a long time ago in a history book about the place that the Earl of Rochford had tunnels dug from the castle into the old corcorcan place near carlow castle in order to attack the town without been seen.

where is it? the wall that is. actually Kim, where is Rochford castle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 994 ✭✭✭kshiel

the wall with the hole I have no Idea about. Rochford Castle is on the Milford road. It is a 1/4 to 1/2 mile before you turn up to Ballinabranna. You can see it from the Kilkenny road also. It is in the middle of a farm. Dont know about investigation there as could be dangerous as there is a lot of holes in the place. One hidden appartantly that is exteremly deep. A lot of stories go with the place though. The locals seem to call it the Black Castle. I camped in the field next to it years ago and that place throws a very very scary vibe.

ah the black castle. I'd be one of the locals - its a few minutes down the road from me

See right on your door step. A few of the owners are supposed to be burried in the grave yard close by to it.

There is a castle on the kilkenny road, just at the turn off to Waterford. Not sure of the name I have been told either Pauls Town Castle or Shankill Castle but the gates had to be cemented shut as they would not stay closed with locks bolts or any other means. Dont know who owns it now some painter I think. They have restored it to its original beauty apparently. Do you know anything on this place.?

Guy have a look at this site and maybe Donal there can help you out:

    http://groups.msn.com/GHOSTPERSONALS

Just tell him 6th sent you ;)

shankill castle i think - elizabeth cope the artist owns it. the gates are definitely cemented shut and they seem to have been for a while as you can barely make out the outlines of the avenue running form the front of the house

I saw a painting of the black castle, taken from an older painting. never heard anyone ever hinting it was haunted though the gateway is a bit freaky.

Kewl. I am from Carlow and would love to be involved but alass, even with the night vision camcorder I am too chicken. :(
Try Ducketts Grove (burned out massive castle and gate lodge). I think it's sign posted on the Hackettstown road out of Carlow. Curses hangings and everything supposedly. Tryin to think of other places but my mind is not functioning at full, whatchamacallit, today!!

P.S. My name is also Donal, does that count as paranormal?!

Hi Don1. Yes ducketts grove is just off the hacketstown road. Remember years ago going to a wedding in the place before it burnt down. Now I was only about 3or 4 at the time so no I am not that old.

Listen dont worry about been chicken we all are sometimes. In fact I can say the dark scares me sometimes. But if you ever get over your fear pm me your details or look up www.leinsterparanormal.com and I will pass them on to my_house also (hes banned as you can see). Dont think he has site fully up and running just yet so bear with him on that fact please.
