Im off to NY on Thurs. Its about 50/60 euro for a taxi from JFK to NYC.
Just wondering if anyone ever went from JFK to NYC on the subway, is it tricky?

I've done this trip before and it's easy. Just buy a MetroCard and follow these instructions: http://mta.info/nyct/service/airport.htm

The M60 doesnt service JFK does it? I think it only services Le Guarda Airport

There is also a bus service from the airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. http://www.nyairportservice.com/faq.html

If I am by myself I get the Carey Bus to Grand Central. Runs every 30 mins, costs $13.

You could use SuperShuttle shared ride van. It will cost $17 each. You can be lucky and be the first people to be dropped off, or at the other end of the route and get a scenic trip around Manhattan.
I used them all the time when I lived in San Francisco.

I was going to JFK from NY & I got the subway (the A line if I remember correctly) & then the air train and it was fool proof, cheap & I imagine quicker as there is no traffic to contend with. Did this while carting two massive bags around.
I'd recommend it & will be using it again next when I'm there later this year.

I'll be doing that on the way home next month. Is there a subway from Manhattan all the way out to JFK?

    Hi,

it was 5 dollars for a metro ticket that brought you from JFK into manhattan, that was 2 yrs ago mind you. the only thing is thats its very awkward to get through the turnstiles in the subway station with large suitcases

    its dead handy

Yes that's correct. You have to take the combined AirTrain and Subway connections for JFK (changing at either Howard Beach or Jamaica stations).

There is definately no need to get a taxi.

I was over there last year and we got the airtrain. Ok, it's not as fool proof (or maybe we're just fools :p) as people are making out. As the airtrain goes around in a loop we managed to go the wrong way and had to get off and get the next train back the way we came. :-)

People are generally very friendly and just ask official looking people when you arrive where to go and the rest. They are generally wearing uniforms. We found people to be very helpful and chatty.

    A.
