Anyone here has their teeth whitened? I have used the stuff you can get in boots with the little trays and stuff but am interested in getting it done professionally. my own dentist does one where they make a tray to fit your teeth and you have to wear it every night but I don't like the sound of that at all - anyone know if theres any places in Ireland where you can just get it done in one session and the cost? - cheers!

I dont think they would be operating if there treatments damaged the tooth underneath.
Go in and have a free consultation.

My sister is a dentist down in Limerick( and I got the tray bleaching done with her last year and would thouroughly recommend it.

Basically she makes a little mould of your teeth and then you get a gum shield type think to wear.Everynight then for about 9 days you place the bleach into the trays and wear them overnight. There not uncomfortable or anything. After two weeks my teeth were lovely and white.A year later and there still Brilliant white.
My sister does the one hour bleaching too but you still have to wear a tray for three nights after that and can only drink and eat white foods.I wouldnt reccomend the one hour bleaching as the results arent half as good as the ocvernight trays.

I had it done a few years ago using the tray method, I was a bit weary of doing it as-well, the idea of going to bed with a large gum shield type thing in my mouth didn't appeal. But shield they give you is very thin and fits over the teeth like a glove, its not at all uncomfortable to use. Also I think its cheaper than the one-off session, around €350.00 iirc.
Anyway, good luck with which ever method you go for, its definitely one of the best cosmetic treatments around:)

They dont work and neither do the at home bleaching systems. The bleach in them is too mild and only Dentist can supply the strong bleach.

    Thats not through

Blanx toothpaste is the most effective whitening toothpaste, that actually works. it was first released in Italy

Also, the best at-home whitening imho is the Crest whitening strips

I only used them on my top teeth and the difference is incredible

Just steer clear of the ones on eBay, they suck!

And I suggest U also only whiten your top teeth, so you notice the difference.

    Good luck! :)

I used to be really conscious of my teeth which were naturally off white/ Yellowy even though I didn't smoke or anything. I eventually convinced my family I couldn't live with them and they arranged for me to see a dentist to take mould trays for bleach. That was back in 2002 and it was 400 pounds to get done professionally. The results were terrific, you get the syringes of bleach, line the clear rubber moulds of your teeth and leave it in overnight. It took about two weeks to get to a luscious white colour (and I wasn't even consistently doing it EVERY night). Everybody says woa your teeth are so white! The brand was Yoco at the time and I still have the trays that fit my teeth. The reason that the chemist sets aren't so good is because the trays are a poor fit and you swallow most of the bleach etc. You should go professional, it's more than worth it. The day after your teeth are sensitive but that goes away after a while. My teeth are still pristine and I can still use it occasionally if I want. I have two fillings, regularly attend the dentist and I eat loads of sweets so no damage at all from bleaching. If you were to do every day unnecessarily it might cause damage eventually but as long as you know when to stop it's fine. I'd recommend it more than anything, I didn't like smiling before and I know that sounds so cheesy like I'm employed by the company but it's great stuff.

    Yeah, theres no danger

But if you get a gel thats too strong [the normal Peroxide % is 22, but 37 is available] , It can burn your gums. When this happens, ur gums sting like hell and turn white, but that goes away within a minute after rinsing the gel, and the White heals after an hour or so

On the sensitivity: The gel cleans ur teeth from the inside out, by chemically opening your teeth's pores. After treatment your teeth may be sensitive to Hot and Cold. This actually makes your teeth a lot healthier, because when you brsh your teeth after using the gel, the minerals in the toothpaste can get into your teeth

Honestly, your best bet is to use the Crest Whitening strips, or get it done professionally. Dont mess with the rest of the crap, its doesnt work

    Good luck

where can i get crest strips

They're only available in the U.S. where they can be bought over the counter at any chemists - they cost about $35 for a course and your teeth stay whitened for a year and a half. They don't damage the enamel on your teeth either.
Ask someone going over there to bring you back a box -
    you'll go from :) to :D

If any of your teeth are crowned I don't think you can use any whitening. It causes a problem apparently with the material in the crown.

Just a wee word of warning about the Crest Whitening Strips...

I got them a few years ago in the States and while they were effective on whitening up my teeth, I only managed to get through half of them. They my teeth incredibly senstive.
My teeth are fine now, but I wouldn't chance trying them again myself. I'm sure plenty of people would be grand, but if your teeth are in any way sensitive now, then avoid the strips.

    Hope that helps!

I've tried the Crest Whitening Strips.

Basically, you get a box of foil pouches, similar to the sort of pouch you'd get a clear pore strip in. Some are for top teeth, some for bottom (they're different shapes). The money-back guarantee in the US basically says they'll only refund you if you return the box with ALL of the lower-teeth strips still in it - the idea is that you can compare the whitening effects of your top teeth against your bottom ones.

Anyway - tear open the foil pouch, out comes a plastic sheet. On it is a soft clear strip - like a piece of cling film, with hundreds of tiny dots of clear gel on one side of it. Take the soft strip carefully off the plastic backing, so as not to smoosh the gel. Now place the soft strip (it's the shape of a band-aid, but a bit smaller) over your front top teeth, and fold the extra behind your teeth to hold the strip in place. The gel bleach will be all smooshed out over your top teeth now.

Now you sit with it on your teeth for half an hour. (...actually I'm not sure if it's half an hour - I THINK it is). At the end of half an hour, take it off and rinse your mouth.

It's not uncomfortable, but it's a little awkward. The gel doesn't taste of much - perhaps a little bitter. The strip will stay in place if you don't go poking at it with your tongue all the time. They work okay, I just found it a pain in the ass wearing them every day twice a day and gave up after a week.

Ive ordered the whitestrips from here: http://www.cheapotc.com/Crest.asp and the website was fine, and delivery was cheap. So if you want to order em, you can get them there. As for whether the strips were any good or not, I honestly didnt notice much difference if any.

No its not that it damages the material on the crown! The reason your not supposed to use any type of whitening kits if you have crowns is because it does not bleach the crown! It will bleach your own teeth but the crown will remain the same colour. The alternative is to get your teeth whitened and when your finished just get the crown changed so that it matches your new teeth colour!! :D
