D-Pin VGA straight to TV with audio going from your sound card (3.5mm jack) splitting into 2 RCA connections(red/white) and plugged into the inputs on the TV.

If you want a better quality video output to the TV you can get a DVI to HDMI cable to use instead of the VGA. The sound setup would be the same as above.

I have one of those Samsung TV's (not that exact model but they share a lot in design) they have a PC audio in so all you need is a straight 3.5mm cable no need for the red/white RCA connectors.

As for HDMI vs VGA well the Samsung TV is programmed to operate as a computer monitor when using VGA for instance it goes into standby when the computer goes into standby or is powered off.

They also disable some of the TV controls and hand that over to be managed by the graphics card plus when using the VGA port the EDID is programmed with PC supported resolutions.

Samsung state in the manual not to use the HDMI port with a computer but I assume that's only to make you use the VGA port, the HDMI would have the edge in image quality but the VGA port may have the edge in convenience.

(I use the VGA port and no complaints about image quality whatsoever never tried the HDMI port as I saw no need)

I have to admit my experience is only with a Toshiba TV, and my graphics card has an option to "force 720p" output on the DVI which works fine for me. I would imagine the Samsung TV would not know the difference between a PC outputting 720p and someother video device outputting 720p.

As you say it is probably a trade-off of quality vs convience. Also I think the HDMI-DVI cables are fairly pricey.

So if i were to just to connect to the VGA port is there any benefit of using a DVI to VGA cable Vs a VGA to VGA cable?

No if you have a DVI-I connection on your graphics card, it is capable of carrying both digital (dvi) and analog (vga) signals at the same time. Your dvi to vga cable probably just discards the digital signal and uses the analog one
