Meh, it's probably be another sh1tty teen remake like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Fog. But I'll wait and see. You never know, it might actually be good!

On a slightly related note, I saw on Popcorn on TV3 that Cronenberg's "The Fly" was produced by Mel Brooks. But Brooks asked that his name be kept off it because he was afraid that people would assume the film was a comedy. FYI !

Todd Lincoln doesn't seem to have any films under his belt and he's what, 28? I reckon it will be just a teen version, like Texas Chainsaw, aye.

Never knew that about Mel Brookes. Wasn't the Fly with Goldblum a remake of a black and white version?

The thing about all these remakes is that we all know the storyline so the only thing updated will be the dodgy FX which I refuse to pay €10 for (€20 if the oul doll is with me! and that before the popcorn, drinks, ice cream. M&Ms jumbo size etc etc)

The 86 remake is a fantastic film. They would rune it by using CG for the fly... I just know it! :(

    Could still be enjoyable.

Anyone seen "The Fly 2"? Any opinions on how it fares as both a film and in the sfx department? Wouldn't mind seeing it but never got around to it.

1986 remake was great, the original isn't half bad even today.

from what I can recall (which isn't a lot as it was soooo bad) it's a terrible terrible film. I thought it was crap btw, did I mention it was dire?

Fly 2 is ok actually. There's this one scene with a mashed up dog that I remember really getting to me. Also the poetic justice at the end is pretty powerful.

The 86 version was pretty good alright but a word on the original : I saw it a few years ago on tv. Thought it was pretty bog standard stuff, nothing worth a second viewing.
However, it was at the end where the two lads sitting down outside discussing the merits of what the scientist was trying to do and their attention was drawn to a fly caught on a web beside them. It felt like a current was passing through me watching that scene. Incredibly eerie stuff, quite memorable as far as Im concerned.

I remember wathcing the '86, Goldblum version, then a few months later realising that it wasn't the original and not really believing it because I thought it was too good to be a remake.

He produced The Elephant Man aswell, also keeping his name off it.

The fly 2 is pretty good. It stars Eric Stolz as the flys son.
Not a patch on the first one but still well worth a watch.

how come i got a feeling imdb's been duped?

Or if it hasnt then someone is taking a big risk...

    heh
What new things can we expect? "Why, in both films, did the fly never fly?"

    and...
Not much has happened since the new Fly remake was announced two years ago by Fox Searchlight. Written and to be directed by Todd Lincoln (maker of three obscure short films), it seems this project might just be dead on the windowsill despite the projected 2006 release date.
