Bought one of these the other day. So far so good, it is quiet and is a nice compact size. Build quility is very good. The drive has a bright blue led on the front which is a bit offputting. I would recommend these tbh. :)

I bought the 320GB version a few months ago. Cracking drive. Realyl quiet. As pointed out though the light on the front would blind ya. I have to keep it under the desk as the light annoys me.

anybody have the size dimensions for this?

Thanks for the tip Lemeister, bought one today in PC World Dundalk, still loads in stock. Very useful for swapping from laptop to desktop without having to reinstall software.
Dimensions, well best to describe it as about the size of a cd-rom drive only not as wide probably 3/4 the width, similar length and height, comes with a small stand. Blue led on the front would nearly blind you but can easily be hidden by facing the unit away from you or covered with a piece of masking tape.
Was forced to upgrqade my old PC to USB 2.0 in order to install it but that was long overdue!

Very silent, speeds aren't too bad, transferred about 31G of MP3s in a little under 35minutes.

Did they any more left? None in Blanch, though in fairness the guy appeared to make a genunine effort to see was there any in stores. What was the problem with service in LV?

They have more in Blanch, well less the 3 sold while I was there.

Liffey Valley had about 8 as of 8pm last night. Would make a nice combination with the Aldi Divx player out this week.

You sure you can connect the hdd via usb to the dvd player and stream divx? Doesn't seem to say that.

I got one. Didn't realise it had so bulky a power supply. I've another external and the PSU is built into the plug which is much handier.

Fair comment but I think it just sees the USB device as an additonal storage device so I'd assume it would happily take formats above and beyond the explicitly stated MP3.

A load came into stock in Blanch on Friday evening. I think there are still a few left after the weekend.

Got a 300GB Toshiba external in Blanch yesterday.

The service is shi*e in Blanch and they are pushy in getting you to buy.

I walked in and couldnt spot the HD area in the store at first, so i asked one of the guys working there. He showed me with great speed and i told him i was looking for a 300/320 GB. He shot into the store room and brought out the 300 GB Toshiba to me and almost pushed me towards the till even before i got to look at the box. He was like a fecking child.

I stood at the HD area and stated to him I had a few other bits to get as well.
He continued to the till and wrote his staff number on the box and came back to let me know he had left it at the till for me, (they get some sort of commission for sales - thats the main reason that they are pushy!).

BTW Toshiba 300 GB cost me €199

Well worth the money - Silent unit!

I thought the 250x2 @240 was a better deal. But while the enclosure is very well made, I'm not crazy about the all the cable tangle it causes. I might return mine. I think Maplins have a Seagate 300 or 320 for 165. don't like the look of the enclosure on that one thought.

I don't like the seperate PSU block, it means you have a cable to it and a cable from it. Some units have the PSU in the plug, so only one cable. Much neater.

The commision they earn is 2% of the profit on the product. Which is absolutely pi$$ all on those hard drives. They make €12 or something similar on that particular HDD.

2% of €12 (24 cent) wasn't worth his while going to the stock room :p
