Tracking your shipment with Apple Store?

I recently purchased a MacBook online with Apple on June 29th. I got an email saying it had shipped on July 1st and I could track it online.

However, everytime I login and track it, all I get is a message saying, "In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule". There is a delivery date posted of July 10th (I'm kinda hoping it arrives tomorrow rather than Monday so I can check it out over the weekend :D ).

Anyway, I thought the point of tracking something was that you could see exactly where it is at any given time. Surely my order isn't still sitting in the factory carpark since July 1st. Why haven't I got an update yet? I'm not getting impatient or anything, I just thought the 'tracking' service would give me more information other than telling me my order is en-route!

Idle hands are the devils playground :D

Apples own tracking site is pure rubbish, I ordered my Macbook Pro over the phone on the 22nd. I was told by the order confirmation email that I should get it on the 28th. I then got the shipping confirmation with the link to the apple shipping site saying I would have it on 5th July.

On the order page it will have a list of the items in the order and above them the Courier shipping the items to the Apple distribution center in Daventary. If you customised your Macbook this will take up to 5 days as the customised Macbook will be shipped from Shanghai. If you just took the base model thats on the website with the default configuration then it will be shipped from the Netherlands within 24 hours (to the UK DC). Once all the items in the order arrive at the distribution centre Apple will pass the order over to UPS or TNT and their website will be updated with the tracking number and name of the courier shipping the order. You can then track your order proper.

In the mean time if you take the number starting with 80 (its about 10 digits) and feed it into this website: http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/
You can see the current progress of the delivery.

I got my Macbook Pro on the 28th as Apple origional said, so you should get yours sooner rather than later.

Hey, thanks for that. Just rang the helpline this morning. The guy was surprised that the website was not updating the info but told me that the shipment is arriving in ireland today and it will be with me by Monday 10th as scheduled.

    Perfect!

Note: I did go for a customised order. I added 2x512MB RAM instead of the base 2x256MB and also upgraded to the 80GB HD. This probably caused it to come from Shanghai as you mentioned. Anyways, almost here!!
