This has made me curious. Can a spirit itself be destroyed?

No, but you can grab them with proton guns and freeze them in a trap. Never cross the proton beams though.

unless you are faced with a really big bad one. Then cross the beams but it might be bad.

on topic however I dont think anyone has the qualifications to state yes or no as the whether a spirit can die. Perhaps they can, perhaps they are cant. Perhaps they exist on a different level of existance and different rules apply. Or perhaps they dont exist at all. So i doubt you'll get an answer.

    *frown*

One ghostbusters reference is enough in any thread.

There is some talk about ghosts "fading" over time, but I'm not quite sure on the specifics or even how one would measure such things.

    Really?

This has made me curious. Can a spirit itself be destroyed?

Destroyed suggests and aggressive act so i'd say NO to that question.

As Psi said there are stories that they fade over time and this may well be the case. Theres alot to look into to really get answers and you wont get everythign in replies here. Maybe try a little research yourself OP?

Anyway if you believe in reincarnation then you could say that the spirit is "recycled" in some way?

I think the whole idea of being a ghost was that you were not good enough to enjoy the splendour of 'Heaven'. So you were to be punished by being in an enviroment whereby you cannot interract with anyone or anything, and therefor cannot 'die' as such. As I have no personal experience in that matter, take my post with a pinch of salt

Personally I think the answer is yes, they can. Running through just about every thread that has been on this forum over the years is one common concept. This common theme is that there exists some form of energy, or energies, beyond the current undertstanding of science. It is this energy, or perhaps patterns within this energy which are responsible for most of what we refer to today as the paranormal, including ghosts and spirits. If and when science does discover the nature of this energy and how to manipulate it, human history has shown us that it will almost certainly be turned into a weapon, which I believe could be used to disrupt this energy enough that it would not return to whatever form it was in before.

energy apparently cant be destroyed though. I reckon spirits mightnt die, they just go somewhere else

Ok so spirits can't be distroyed presently but it may be possible in the futre with greater understanding of their makeup?

Energy itself can't be destroyed, but it can be changed and transfered so that it is nothing like what it once was. If you say a ghost is energy, then sure, that energy can't be destroyed, but it can be taken apart, moved somewhere else, or used to power a TV.

You use eggs when making a cake ... dont you? (i dont like quiche)

See thats one of the biggest hurdles we have to cross, there is no set terminology for discussing the "Paranormal".

When someone says ghost I can only presume they mean the broad range of phenomenon i.i. enitities, recordings/echos etc.

that was a better way of describing it than my 'they just go somewhere else'

I need to keep it simple or my head starts to hurt ;)

That's just it the term is used for such a wide range of things and each has it's own effects and there for you can't generically say at all that is considered to be 'ghosts' will or will not fade/die/dissiapte/unravel/move on.
