Braces in Dublin?

Hi, I am a Canadian starting school at University College Dublin (UCD) in September and I'm considering getting braces. Is it feasible to get the orthodontics done during the summer in Canada and then have the check-ups every 4 months or so when I return home from Dublin? I understand that the general rule is a check-up every month or so but how stringent is this rule?

Can anyone recommend a good orthodontist near the UCD campus and the price range that I should expect? Also, is there any dental insurance available for professional students?

Lots of questions here and I would appreciate any answers.
    Thanks!

TBH, it's never a good idea to leave it that long between visits to the orthodontist. Generally, every month to six weeks is a standard recall timetable.
The problem with orthodontics is it needs to be tightly monitored so that predictable treatment outcomes take place. If you leave it four months between visits, something difficult to correct can occur. Visits every four months will almost certainly increase the overall treatment time also.

As for dental insurance, nothing that covers orthodontics. But there is dental insurance available to the public. It is limited in the amount that it covers and also the types of treatments it covers.

Why not get your orthodontics done here? There are some excellent orthodontists here with international reputations.

Hi thanks for replying. By here, do you mean Ireland? Part of the reason is that it would cost thousands more in Ireland than in Canada. Also, I was hoping to get it done before school starts so it won't be a distraction. Can you recommend any good orthodontists near UCD?

I don't know anything about orthodontics in Canada, despite my housemate being Canadian and a dentist! I know that orthodontics can be quite pricey here (in Ireland) though.

As far as good orthodontists around UCD, I'm sure there are a few. You can search dentist.ie. As far as orthodontists go, all will have the required skill to treat any orthodontic complaint successfully, but not all would have the excellent interpersonal and motivational skills that are also (IMO) required to go alongside. I will ask around and try and find out for you, but no promises. ;)
