    hi,

my mate was over at my house and she got sick out the window, the next morning a big black bird was on the sill and it picked up a bit of sick in its mouth and was perched there moving its head like someone coming down off pills (although im sure there was probably some residue in teh sick so it could be down to that). it was big and black and had a really really intense black beak that took up most of its face, what kind of bird was this?

    thanks

Probably a crow, they look different up close :)

Clean your window sill mate and try to divert drunken friends to the toilet bowl next time!

Howdy. There are actually 6 types of crow normally found in Ireland...from the pinkish jay to the blank & white magpie. While the raven is an enormous all-black crow, the fact your bird is in a housing area would suggest to me a young rook (whose beak is not grey yet), or a jackdaw.

You can get pictures and info on all of these here:http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/

That site is for UK birds - the species of crow in Ireland are Rook, Jackdaw, Magpie, Hooded Crow, Jay, Raven & Chough. For some reason the carrion crow never bothered to colonise Ireland.
