They are generally barred because they're stolen, or have been reported stolen/lost to make an insurance claim.
They'll probably work fine here, but do you want to encourage that kind of behaviour?

I'm not sure if they will work here, I questioned one of those type of sales before and the seller said he wasnt 100% sure if it would work so I left it at that. He said it works on vodafone UK but not sure about Vodafone IE.

If they are only barred in the UK they will work fine here.

If they're not stolen, then they have been reported as much for an insurance claim.

However Your not going to get any warrenty at all with it. as when the repair company checks the IMEI , it will come up as stolen.

This is presuming an awful lot.

Operators here have been talking about sharing their blacklist with the UK operators but not sure how far down the line they are with this.

AFAIK Meteor and VF UK share lists. Have seen UK VF handsets tried on Meteor here and they wont register on the network. Anyway this whole thread is basically discussing stolen handsets. As Pythia said do we want to encouraghe it?

Thats probably more due to the fact that they might have been 3G phones, in which meteor sims rarely work correctly, even if they are fully unlocked and legal.

I've used a Meteor sim no problems in several UK barred phones that originated on the VF UK network, but they were older models predating 3g.

    Also, watch this space

    http://www.gsmworld.com/using/security/index.shtml

If a mobile operator has signed up to the CEIR then any country that this suspect handset gets used in is going to bar the phone from their network.
