recently moved to the sticks and as usual no bb so took isdn option with 150 hrs

playing bf2 on isdn seems smooth enough and the ping seems fine for a while hoovering around the 80-100 for uk servers then is shoots up to 900 for a split second then back down again. with the average ping limits on the servers i end up getting kicked by punkbuster after 20 minutes or so

    anyone else have this problem?

    No.

But if I had an 80-100 ping to a uk server I'd either kill myself or I'd pack up and move there.

I'm replying ecause its something to do.

There is no rule saying I can't, and it was relevant to your post, stating that ISDN is not really suitable for BF2, and that's probably your problem.

The 'careful there' was in reference to you implying I was not intelligent, so, careful there......

Yes, I am flexing my online muscle. Rarrrr!!!!

There are some rules which lead to you being banned for being a muppet.

ISDN shouldnt spike like that, can you test it with another game see if its the game or your ISDN.

Make sure ISDN is set in BF2 connection settings as the conection. Could also be Punkbuster theres a hack to stop it doing that.

the lag is probably when the game needs more data then a isdn line can recieve or send

I played all sorts of online games with 64k isdn for years.
BF 1942,Vietnam and mods for both always gave pings of about 60-90 and were fully playable.
While i cant comment on BF2 and isdn it was always a known issue with 1942 and vietnam that those on isdn should set it to 56k ingame.
Dont ask me why but i went from pings of 200+ to below 100 after doing this.
This was a long time ago however.
Maybe try 56k setting if there is one on BF2?
Hope this helps somewhat unlike cheap jibes at where you live.

what size servers are you on when the ping pikes happen,, , clearly with isdn you shoudl be avoiding anything bigger than 32

doesnt matter what size or where the server is it still spikes sent a troubleshooter ticket to punkbuster they replied and said isdn is unsuitable for bf2. just hope eircom will take the lot out with out a penalty

Run a ping test to the server ip without the port.
Set it to a huge paramenter like 200 packets and see if it spikes without punkbuster running.

Ping test: Start--->Run. Type in cmd. Hit enter. Then type in ping server.ip -n 200 .

If you see it spike you got a problem with eircom.

pinged all the irish servers and its steady at 60-70 then spikes to about 500 then back every 15 secs or so. i'l give eircom a ring a see what they say

    thanks

Erm, IIRC, ISDN's don't really have a wireless option :/

As siad before, select the 56k option, and you should be ok.

t1 and 256k and above are only 2 options i can see in bf2?

Hmmm... So it does :( The funny thing is a few people used to play BF2 on 56k, and it was grand (on Irish servers), so it must be your side.

15 seconds you say? You wouldn't happen to have a fax plugged in somewhere? They usually check for new message's every so often, and that, or something else plugged in could be your problem.

If all else fails, Eircom are open around 11am on Saturday, I think, for a few hours.

You can download a program like Ping plotter. It should record ping spikes and tell you where in the network it is. Also it puts the fear of god into tech support since you can prove they have the problem not you.

As for the 4 pcs, ones a rough cross between a pc for friends etc to check mail + file server + game machine. Ones a pure bred gaming rig. Ones a benching/overclocking rig. And ones a media centre. Not in that order.

changed my dialup to iol free number and that fixed it. pings to irish servers a solid 40 pings to uk 50-60:)

BTW isdn 128k lag free on full 64 man servers here and in the uk

will switch to iol on mon

cheers for all the help in getting this sorted

I dont understant what you mean? I have heard many people complaining about lack of broad band in the sticks but none that are willing to do some thing about it...

Obviously if there are not enough customers to fill a server it wont happen though.
