Ramp n' rail no more

Its a very sad day today for me and alot of other people as last night ramp and rail in drumcondra closed its doors to the wheeld community for good. From what i know, its another 'i could use this land for a better purpose' job. Last night we sessioned the absolute sh1t out of it, insane stuff went on. I was in work from 6am till 5 labouring, then 5:45 till 12 skating. 2/3 hours of it a private session. I saw a couple of lads that really stuck out who worked there for free, skated it every day it really showed in their skating. I could see it in their faces, some of the lads were close to tears at the thought of never stepping foot in there again. Even while everyones legs turned to jelly from pumping the ramps, the session had to go on as we all knew it was going to be the last time we could skate it. We took our last pics of the park, packed up, and left.

Id like to thank mike and wayne for setting it up for us. Rollerbladers, BMXers and skateboarders have alot to learn from those chaps. Another name that imo, is a name that should be sung in praise every day is frank manweiler. He lives for rollerblading. He always put the park first (in my eyes) and was always there to offer advice and give a helping hand to anyone in the park. He gave every skater/bmxer/boarder a place to go come rain or shine for the last 8 or so years, and stuck with it to the end.

Just wanna use this oppertunity to say thanks to the ramp n rail team for the time they gave us in the park. Even tho they dont know it, they have changed alot of peoples lives, and put them on the straight and narrow in life by giving kids/teenagers and grownups a place to be at home and enjoy what we all like doing most in a safe and friendly invorment.

    Thanks lads

darn wish i skated it more.
falling on concrete just wont be the same as falling on wood.

much respect to all who stuck with it through the years.(insurance and all that)

    peace out.end of an era.

now we gotta make sure we keep the scene alive.

We kept the park going as long as we could, but i believe the landlord has plans for the unit so we were not going to get the lease re-newed and Unfortunatly moving to a new premises would be to expensive.
We still hope to hold some events during the year, such as comps and demos, if anyone renembers the days of the top hat and the quinnsworth carparks.

I'm going to miss barring people for not wearing their helmets:(

What a shame it had to close.

Poped my head in a few times to have a look but never had my bike or rollerblades with me.
The one time i went down on the bike it was close and i taught the worst then (heard of it closing, or that it was close to doing so) only to find out it wasnt closed down. Wish i had gone down again some other night. :(

I wish all the lads, locals etc the best of luck for the future. Hopefully the scene can stay allive. I'll not be living to far (phibsboro) for next college term.
What happens the ramps btw? I hope they grace someones shed/back yard

actually, we are putting the ramps on ebay, and failing that we will strip and rebuild them in to a mobile course used for events etc.
Hopefully they can be sold on as we still need to come up with a lot of money somehow to pay off the liqudators,

Only started skating there in the last 3 years!!!!
Its where i tore the cartillage in my knee!! But f**k that i didnt sue!
It'll be sorely missed as it was a cool place.
Total respect to Frank who was always on hand to offer good friendly advice.
    RIP R+R :(:(
Insurance people ripping off the irish public again, when will these blood sucking mother ****ers end this tyranny that effects all of our lives...*****!
Money Money Money thats all these people think about..what about living life to the full!!!
How come parks in America can surviveand they have a very high compo culture?
I hope i meet an insurance salesman at a ramp some day!!!! I'll push him off the top and cos he wasnt wearing pads he wont have any comeback. muhahahah
Anyway if anyone is passing through Sallynoggin mail me and you can skate my mini ramp!!! I screwed up the transition so its sh*t tight like an old school pool.....

do american parks even have insurance, isnt it just like skate at your own risk, and if u die its ur own fault. well, thats the way it should be in ireland. any one see dogtown and z-boys on rte 2 last night?

As an example, there are insurance companies in califoria who specalise in skateparks, they actually advertise looking for more parks to insure.
Over here its a complete joke, but things are starting to get better now that the government finally got around to making fraudulent claims illegal,
Up till recently it was not illegal to make up fake claims, if you got caught you may have to pay back the money, but thats all.
Now you can go to jail for it so its starting to help

    lo
We have the newspapers coming to take photos for a story about the park closing down, they just want a photo of us outside the closed park, if any1 is intrested you may get your face in the newspaper if you want to come along to show your support, hopefully the publicity may help to get some grant aid towards the skate scene

    later
