Must have CRPG Games

The recent thread on baldars Gate has set me thinking about what are the must have list of computer roleplaying games.

For me it would have to be(in no order):
    • Baldars Gate I & II plus expansions
These have been in my mind the pinnacle of CRPG’s to date on the PC.
    • Planescape
      Another masterpiece from bioware
    • Fallout I and II
    • Vampire Masquerade 1 & 2
The first one was fairly enjoyable and had an invoative multiplayer for the time similar to NWN and its modules. The second I also enjoyed but not as much and was disappointed at the lack of multiplayer.
    • Oblivion
I’m not so sure about this one. Its great looking but I wish the forests where a bit more barren and that happening upon ruins was much less common, ie walk for 2 minutes bang new ruin.
    • Elite (bbc)
I know some would say its not a roleplaying game, but for me it was at the time.
    • Neverwinter Nights
I wasn't that impressed with the single player, but the multiplayer is the greatest.

So what else would you add to the list and why ?

I think your list pretty much sums it all up. Though Icewind Dale II, I feel should get a mention cos I remember many a late night questing in that.

Planescape Torment: I played it when I was too young to really appreciate its brilliance, and now it doesnt seem available anywhere (except e-Bay and high prices)

    System Shock 1/2.
    Deus Ex
    Rogue (seriously!)

Planescape is my fav. of all time, closely followed by Fallout 1/2

Never could really get *into* Planescape:Torment. Interface irritates me. Still, I have a save game I can go back into if and when I get the urge. The story is rumoured to be fantastic and Ill admit Ive got theories...

Other honourable mentions would be KOTOR 1 and possibly KOTOR 2. KOTOR 2 was more ambitious, but seems it was rushed and the story botched. And that first bloody level.....It was the War and Peace of starter levels. Just never fricking ended. Has anyone actually modded it yet to restore the original storyline? If so a replay will be in order.

There's a different storyline? What was it, do you know?

Aside from what the Rev said, I'd reccomend Ultima 7: The Black Gate. It's an oldie alright but a good one.

Well, the loose ends were tied up better. Instead of you know, just going to final location, with everybody except for that redhaired bountyhunter/jedi vanishing. Somebody was looking through the game files and found material for the orginally designed ending which was cut - Id imagine to get it out the door. Apparently everybody had their little scene with the villain and everything was wrapped up much better. The little sequence at the end where the villain gives you a short conversation to talk about various characters was apparently all that survived.

Always interested to see if anyone was able to mod the game back to its originally intended finale. And here they are...though its all very "when its done" at this point.

And heres another...You know, if these guys were to join together, no one could stand against their combined power. So its a good thing they are I guess

What about Third Person games... Anyone got any good suggestions on those?

I think this is the game, havent downloaded and tested yet because i'm in work and would be shot.
There is a Mordor II also but havent played it.
Catchy soundtrack to the original game, you'll find yourself humming it.
Hours of fun. Can be a bit glitchy.

surprised Raph was the first to mention morrowind... The precursor to Oblivion. And older again (never played) is daggerfall? supposed to be excellent.

Daggerfall was class. One of my favourite character creation systems too.
You could give your character disabilities in order to gain points for other stats.
Story was good, and it was very atmospheric in parts. A bit glitchy though, you could hit people through walls, and sometimes when you loaded a game, you could have an entirely different inventory than when you saved it.
