Wedding Photo's on a CD

    Hi,

We are thinking of getting our wedding photo's on a cd (photographer is offering 400 high-res photos on a cd along with an empty photo album). Does anyone know how much it would cost to get these photo's developed (obviously not them all but enough to fill the album - around 30 I suppose) and if the quality will be nearly as good as if the photographer did them??

    Thanks

If he's putting 400 photos on one CD, they're not going to be too high-res!
The cost of developing the photos would just be the normal high-street price, I'm sure.

An average of 1.6 mbytes per picture is reasonable, but definitely not the highest possible resolution.

Since you're only blowing up big enough to put into your album, the quality difference from what he would print probably won't be noticeable. If you tried to blow up bigger, he could probably make higher quality prints with his originals, but it wouldn't be HUGELY noticeable.

Wedding photographers might also put the images into a custom album application that runs from an EXE on the CD meaning you can't copy the pictures off the disc.

If you have digital pictures use something like the simple and free Microsoft Photo Story 3 here this can give really nice photoalbums that you are in control of.

    Burn them onto DVD maybe?

Sorry, it will be a dvd he will be giving us with the 400 photos, so that is 4.7GB. I presume this would allow high def photo's? And he is giving them to us in such a format that we can go and get them developed when we want.

Thanks for the replied so far but basically I was just wondering if we would be able to get nice photo's developed to a good quality so we can stick them into an album. Would I be able to walk into any photo developing store and get good quality 10*8's and 10*12's. I don't just want ordinary photo's that your normally get back if you dropped in a roll of film.

Yes, you can bring along the CD and get very high quality photo printed.
Just make sure that the photographer is giving you the highest quality images he can. Bear in mind that you get what you pay for.

Oh, he's burning them to a dvd? And it's not some custom album application? Then, at 12 mb average possible per file, you will definitely be able to print you up some high quality prints.

€1800 for the 400 photos and an empty album.

Is there any specific quality type I should ensure I am getting??

Also, any estimate how much each photo would be to develop?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks for the help

Which photographer are you using ? Do they have a site with an online gallery ?

Is the 1800 euros for 400 finished pictures ? i.e. photos that have been properly processed in photoshop ?

Or will the 400 pictures include the total of the shots that the photographer takes that day
(including shots were people are blinking and say - one scene or pose photographed 15 times included in the mix of 400 pictures) ?

It may be worth your while shelling out for a reasonable quality, good brandname A4 photo printer yourself. If I were you thats what I would do. The inks (either 6 or 8 inks) and paper (different quality paper = different prices) would be your only ongoing costs.

After the initial outlay you will be paying approx 1 euro per A4 high quality gloss print.

You could always sell the printer on later if you no longer need it. You might also find that family & friends would like copies of the shots in which case you would get more use out of the printer, making it a more cost effective alternative.

If you have time before the wedding you might want to check out photo printers - many shops have sample sheets which were printed on the printer for sale giving you a good idea of the quality you can expect.

I would say quality wise its going to match your average photo print place. (in my opinion).

check out the prices on http://www.photobox.ie/ as well. If you're ordering a lot of 10*8s they get pretty cheap.

I'm fairly sure that the 400 are finished shots not the sum totla he takes on the day. His website is here

For the price of printers these days, and the option that'll give you to print out loads of copies at different sizes and see instant results, I'd say that's a great suggestion. It's a pain to have to go through the rigmarole of doing it in a shop - although everything I've heard about photobox has been very good, you can give friends and relatives all over the country the ability to order prints for themselves, and they get delivered to your door in a day or so.

He looks really good, best of luck to you. I wish I could do it again ;)
