Not Strictly available in....

Is it just me, or are the Heinekin ads a bit fuppin cheeky?

I'm talking about the "not strictly available in.." ads, the latest one is set in America during prohibition, and the tagline is "not strictly available during prohibition, but where there's a will..."

So, Heinekin is so good it's worth breaking the law for? What would the reaction be if it were:

Cannabis: Not Strictly available in Ireland, but....

    or

Heinekin: Not Strictly available to under 18's, but....

And whats with the whole "Enjoy Heinekin Responsibly." What is the definition of "Responsibly"? Don't drink until it makes you throw up? Don't drink so much that it'll affect your kidneys?

why not say "it is recommended that you don't drink more than x pints per week"?

    I'm getting old, amn't I.

It's just a requirement of law that "advises" people who are unaware of the effect of booze somehow

It's probably Heineken's weakest campaign to date.

I thought all alcholic beverage ads now had to include a bit about enjoying the product responsibly (a bit like the warnings on cigarettes, I guess?).

i don't think it is, tho. I think it's self-regulation on behalf on the brewers, so that the government don't *make* them put stuff like that on the ads - and probably be a lot tougher than the brewers are willing to be. Thats what pisses me off, they are pretending that they are concerned about their customers, but all they are doing is the minimum they can get away with.

Oh right, yeah completely agree with the "minimum" they do...business is business I suppose, they want to make as much for as little effort and money as possible!

empty can of heineken beside me and it also has the drink responsibly warning on it. as with the empty can of budweiser.
    obviously some new law.

note to self. put cans into recycling bin.

They do also pay for all those 'never drink and drive' adverts though. Altough I'm not sure how effective they actually are.

I like the Mexican 'Not scrictly available' advert as I've been to that little town with the big tunnel and I get to point excitedly at the TV screen whenever it comes on and scream about how I've been there.

I thought the drinks companies pay for the "don't see a great night wasted" ads and the "never ever drink and drive" campaign was paid for by the Department of the Environment and AXA Insurance...

Id love to see a "not strictly available in...." ad where some Pakistani guy is deported back home, arrives back in the village and whips out a few bottles of Heineken, which the people then celebrate with bursts of automatic gunfire in the air :)

Its political correctness gone mad not allowin that one.....

As far as I know it's not law that they have to have the "drink responsibly" thing but they just do it so as to try and keep a good relationship with the anti-drinking lobbies

Thats it alright. They are trying to keep in the good books as such, and avoid what happened to the smoking industry.
