Anybody notice the English flag with 'UVF' written on it during the Portgual V England game?

    It also said 'no surrender'.

It was lovely alright, no surrender to those horrible UVF rays from the sun.

You'd need your factor 50 in Germany. It's been very hot over there.

maybe they are from the north and living in england? i remember my history teacher telling us that the UVF depended a lot on english fascist businessmen when they were active. That kind of fanaticism attracts people from everywhere...

There are some Northern Irish and Scottish people who would follow England in the football rather than their own country. I suppose their views are more similar to the small minority of English fans who are scumbags then they are to some NI fans and Scots fans.

I seen the Minge one and the No Surrender/UVF one. The UVF one was behind Sven's Head against the dug out glass. Everytime the camera zoomed on him you could just about read No Surrender written with a biro.

indeed. just like the BNP and neo-nazi supporters in Ireland.

upon reflection, i wonder does anyone here really care if some english people support the uvf or whatever unionist organisation is the flavour of the week?
fu(k them. we have our own scumbags to deal with.

exactly, i care about as much about the north now as the week old sandwich in my schoolbag. Seriously dry stuff, its not even entertainment. The real trouble is over let them sort out the rough edges themselves

A lot of right wing english fans support the Loyalist "cause". Hence "No surrender to the IRA" being heard frequently at matches. Hardly a new sight to be honest. What would the OP expect the lunatic right wing fringe of the English support to be waving, IRA flags?

No worse than the 'IRA' chants roared into the Fields of Athenry at our sporting occasions if you ask me. People in glasshouses etc.

Links to the Northern struggle by the English hooligans go back years, Id assume it probably gained momentum among ex soldiers active in the hooligan movement and stayed. "No Surrender to the IRA" has been an English chant for years now (though after the incident where two of their Leeds brethern were stabbed in Turkey, "Id Rather Be a Paki Than a Turk" has seemingly gained more importance)

Though by and large theyve as much connection to the fighting as the lads who rioted in O`Connell Street.

FIFA voted the English the best group of fans at the tournament. Wow! Just under 1000 arrests of the pricks in 3 weeks really leaves an impression! Forget the jolly, drunken Aussies who followed their team loyally, never spouted sh1te that they were going to win it no bother, didnt trash the place in revenge at what was a controversial, unlucky defeat, give the Best Fans accolade to the crowd that generally acted the spa wherever they went and had nearly 1000 arrests. Brilliant stuff.

In Poland, for club vs club hooligans, its tradition for one crowd to display the colours, flags and jerseys of the opposing team in the stands. Why you ask?

They only hang hats/scarves/flags that they have stolen from rival fans at previous matches in violent assaults. As if screaming "hey, was this your scarf?!!?" across the pitch. Mad bastards!

Just make a bigger flag the next time and write IRA on it with permanent marker. We have until 2010 to prepare. :)

We can always cheer on Anyone But England while simultaneously condemning IRA violence.

England losing seems to be more important than Ireland qualifying / Ireland winning.

don't worry, its not only us who don't want them to win...
its also the rest of the world...

its great to hear the moaning and whining and listen to the excuses and how the opposition cheated every, EVERY time they loses, in any sport...

sour bitter sports fans... if they get that upset they shouldn't participate.
but then again if they didn't take part, then we would have nobody to support...
this way we have every team they play to support.

It really is no surprise to see a flag with UVF on it at an England game. For those here who are totally ignorant about Northern Ireland (i.e. the majority of you) the UVF have very well established links to the Combat 18 and the BNP.
