If I wanted to build my own laptop from scratch(hobby not business) where would I go about getting a motherboard? intel? And is there a website that can design the case for me?

Ya I read that! Thanks a million!! But I am looking at starting from the motherboard(what model number) and working my way out! Possibly ordering from intel who I have already emailed! Havent heard back! I dont really want a barebone as it defeats the purpose!!

Just curious as to who you e-mailed in Intel.

I would doubt it very highly that they would sell to a member of the public.

This months "Custom PC" have an article on building a barebones laptop and have links to sites they were able to buy parts off.

Getting a chassis is very hard according to the article and you can forget about getting a chassis with very high end gfx.

As far as I see (I think!!) the motherboards used in laptops are the Intel 915PM or GM! Is there better? Sure if you have the motherboards isnt that a good bulk of the work done! Just a ton of research into what is compatable with the motherboard and how to slot them into something you havent found yet!:D

as uberpixie said one of the main problems you'll have is getting a suitable case/chassis in which to fit all your components. Plenty of motherboards out there I imagine.

Gist I got from the article is that you have to buy a barebones chassis.

i.e. Monitor+case+mobo all in one job.

Options are very limited as very few companies will sell a barebones laptop chassis to the public.
