    Simon.

Don't be an idiot. In this day and age, if you leave school after your junior cert you're setting yourself up for (most likely) a ****ty life.

Stay in school, study, go to college, get a good job, thank me later.

If you really really must leave school, DO A TRADE. Plumbing or electrician. DON'T just take a local full-time job. Seriously. Check out Fas.ie for trades.

Do your parents know about this decision?

Yes my Father does know about this i did start last week for anpprentship kitchen fitter but i didnt like it so i rang my boss and told him and that was grand.so im seeking a full time job now and no im never goin bak to skool!!wb..

im never goin bak to skool
Well, office work won't suit you...

Seriously, stay in schoo, at least until you get an idea of what you want to do at any rate. Right now it just sounds like a spur of the minute decision, and one that you'll likely regret in years to come.

    :) at driving machinery

If you intend to drive machinery in a public place you will need to apply for a W licence as soon as possible. You will not be permitted to apply for a B licence until you are 17 years of age.

You will defo regret leaving school later. 100%. You are too young to make LIFE CHANGING DECISION like this.

At 16 you have NO IDEA about the real world. You think you do, but you're totally wrong.

do a different trade, trades offer good money and are available to people who haven't even finished their formal education at secondary level.

You're obviously a quitter though. You quit school (whats skool?) you quit your trade.

Simon, Your decission to leave school early might seem like a good idea now, but a few years down the road your gonna look back and realise the opportunity you have now to better yourself eduactionally and to pursue a better secure job.

Im not just spinning this your way for the sake of it, as I made the same mistake when I was that age and regret it, just be sure of your choices. Anyway I went back 3 years later I done my leaving cert and got a good IT job.

And in 10 or 20 years time you will see your colleagues living in nice houses and driving good cars while you toil away in a minimum wage job.

Well just to balance the argument, my younger brother left school after his Junior Cert, or to be more precise he was expelled early in 5th year and never went back.

No he works as a labourer on a building site and earns more than me even though I've a college degree and work for a major bank.

No shortage of work for him, the M7 will be started in the next two years and that's nearby.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 71 ✭✭simonflanagan

What type of work does he do??wb.. please!!

What if the construction boom levels off or if he gets injured/sick and is unable to labour again. He will have no qualifications.

So you're looking for a full time job to quit again? Why bother, in that case?

Do you have any idea what you want to work at for a living?

If you're only looking for a job to do you till you're 18, why not stay in school? Your Leaving Cert alone will get you a job quicker than your Junior Cert (assuming you don't fail it) I was thinking of leaving school after the Junior Cert and I'm glad I didn't. Didn't goto college and I have a decent job that I'm happy with. Stick school for the next two years, it'll be worth it.

Simon your replies here have shown you are not mature enough to make a life changing decision like quitting school.

If you want to destroy your life, fine.

Why exactly do you want to quit school? Give proper reasons please...

I've just finished the Leaving Cert. and already i can see how valuable it's been. I saw lads drop out at junior cert, they went a while unemployed, some got in with builders, bought cars, used mammy and daddy to pay for the cars because they couldn't affrord it.
They have no qualifications (apart from JC which isn't worth a ****e).
At least with the Leaving, theres always an option if you go working to come back and do PLC's, join Gardaí etc.

You will regret it. Just think of spending the next 40 years labouring and making minimum wage.

    Bad decision....

Whats even more shocking (and I dont think anyone has mentioned it yet) is that the parents are going along with this.

Simon, ur setting urself up for a life of hardship, go back to school will ya and get a leavin cert ffs. You have a very simplistic view of the world as it is, "Ill get a another job" attidute. Not as simple as that sonny. Swallow ur pride and go back to school, do ur leavin. You can do what you like after that.

:) Ok everyone i left school now, and im seeking a Full time job any help me!!
Sure, no problem. EVERY job will need one simple thing: 5 pass's in your Leaving Cert. and you'll get a 18,000 a year job.

Want higher? You'll need a 3rd level (college) Cert.

Or you can get into a trade with 5 pass's from the Junior Cert, but a new law passed a year or two ago says that your employer must give you a day off each week so that you can goto school, to study for your Leaving Cert.

So either way, you'll be going back to school.

Finally, learn to spell correctly, or go back to primary school.

People lay off simon a bit. He has decided to leave school. He'l lookin for advise not a slaggin.

I've done a 4 year degree and currently working in a IT in a decent paying job. A friend of mine, quit school, at 16 done a trade, then an evening business course. He currently has his own business with nearly 20 people working for him and a couple of houses. he's 25.

School just dosent suit some people, dosnt mean they're stupid

Simon, if your a 100% on quitting school look at a trade of some description. if fitting kichens didnt suit, look at something else plumbing, sparky

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 429 ✭✭gbh

School is over-rated. I look around and people who left at 16 are now the wealthiest most respected people in my locality. They have big houses, businesses, succesful, everything. Whereas people with degrees struggle to find jobs.

My advice, if you think leaving school works for you, then do it. But make sure you are going into an industry that won't disappear over night.

Thats all well and good, but I'm sure your friend had more ambition than "driving large vehicles". Simon seems to have none. He has already stated that he has no trouble drifting between jobs.

Ideally, if you could ask your friend to consider posting about his experiences, some perspective might go a long way for this thread.
