BOSCO - Boy or Girl? You Decide!!

Well I've never been quite sure about our little squeeky voiced puppet friend with a hand up his/her behind so I thought, why not ask the boards.ie population to decide just what sex (or lack of), the legendary puppet actually is.

So, consider this like a referendum. When the masses have spoken, Bosco will officially have a sex (or not) and will then be able to pursue intimate relationships with other puppets such as Sooty, Madaline the Rag Doll from Bagpuss or even Mr Hat (if that's what floats his boat).

What sex is Bosco? 65 votes

    Bosco - it's a boy's name!

Yeah I thought about that but I think the name is derived from the Irish word for box 'bosca'. Given that Bosco lives in a bosca I'd need more evidence to be sure - hence the poll :)

Or given that she 'has a box'

But it could be a woman doing the voice and be a mans hand operating it... so where does that leave you?

well maybe if it was a woman doing the voice, she would be bosco's soul and persona. The man with his hand up bosco's ass keeps him in a box, bosco is just a slave to this man

Come to think of it Bosco lived in a box. He is a role model for homeless people everywhere

Bosco was a boy,was referred to teh odd time as such.he was voiced by Paula Lambert,Eugene Lambert the pupeter's daughter.Eugene was O'brien in wanderly wagon and had a puppet theatre in monkstown..dunno if its still there.

Bosco was always voiced by a woman, either Miriam Lambert or later her sister Paula.

I note that even on the website, Bosco is devoid of a sex!

This has been debated before on boards: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=259319

My mates stepdad used to work in RTE and his claim to fame is that he did the outside shoots for the Magic door section of Bosco (which was practically always Dublin zoo anyway).

Anyway he always maintained that Bosco was deliberately androgynous so that he would appeal to both boys and girls !

As someone said, Eugene Lamberts daughters did the voice and operated it, so it had a womans voice and a womans hand up it's backside (hang on a minute...a girls voice and had a girls hand up his backside.....OMG David beckham must be related to Bosco  ).
There were about 4 or 5 boscos (including the one kidnapped by UCD students) and there's still one in the Lamert puppet theatre.

For me, bosco was always a boy but my sister was sure he was a girl which lead to many fights between us over it's sex until my mother settled the dispute by telling us that Bosco was an alien !

For me the real mystery of Bosco was how come Miriam was always pregnant...I later found out that they only produced 50 odd episodes a year and the show was on everyday so there was a lot of re-runs of previous years shows each week hence Miriam appeared to continiously be up the duff !

Bosco was an eternally 5-year-old boy. My aunt used to work as a co-presenter on the show and the fact that he was a boy was actually mentioned a number of times during various programmes, if I recall correctly.

No, she was the eternally pink shell-suit wearing 'Bairbre'.

(and yes, I've spelled her name correctly)
