    Folks,
I'm looking to get out of this sh!thole of a country next week over the 12th - and decided to head to Donegal for a few days. Where would be the best place to head to?
I'm looking for a camping site close enough to, maybe a beach etc, just some decent things, then also close enough to a town etc for a few pints in the evening.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers,
    S.

Dunfanaghy, Port na Blagh, Marble Hill, Rathmullan - loads of places.

You won't really be getting away from it all as half your countrymen will be there also. :D

How about Malin Head, easy to get to, a few good pubs that always have a good welcome to the visitor

Actually, yeah - maybe Donegal isn't the best place to go!
Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll get googling for camp sites... :)

Why not visit the 'North-West' forum listed under Regions here on Boards.ie. There a lot of people living in Donegal who post there, and they can be very helpful :) .

I'm thinking about stopping off in Portsalon alright, I've stayed there a few times before, as a kid - too young to really appreciate it. I remember there's a wee pitch and putt golf course somewhere near by too :)
So I think I have the first and second nights covered - first night Clonmany, thanks to Dongeal Lass, second night Portsalon. Third night - certainly somewhere by the sea. :)

portsalon is by the sea, it has one of the nicest beaches in the world and it's beautiful watching the Swilly and the Atlantic meet. AFAIK the pitch and putt is still there and there is camping sites too. there is also a nice pub i think is called Ritas which is a 5 min drive away from the beach.

Rathmullen (my hometown) does get fairly full of border jumpers around this time of year but there is never any hassle from the locals it's the out of towners that cause the hassle (trying to burn down a pier ffs  ) and there are some really nice pubs and a beach to boot. if you like being all fancy and diving off stuff the pier is perfect second deepest port in Ireland (damn cork) and you can get nice air when the tide is out without fear of the bottom

    see

be warned there is a strong current there though and the beach does get very deep very quick on the fort side.

and it is true that the largest orange march outside of the 6 counties happens in Donegal :)

    enjoy your holiday

I don't do diving! I paddle. Apart from that, I 'm not keen on water. :)
Yeah, I'd like to get back to Portsalon again though. Thanks for that.
