I'd tell them of course... although I rarely pay attention to what they are doing... I'm too busy trying to get the plastic bags open.

    I'd tell them. I'm not a thief!

Most shops that stock the likes of DVDs have the detectors by the door so you would be caught anyway. :) I would tell them anyway, at least you would avoid the damn detectors going off.

    I'd tell em.

This one time I bought an apple and a bottle of water. I had the apple in my hand and then I realized that the shopkeeper didn't see it she just charged me for the water. There was a big queue behind me so I just walked away... :o   :o:o

i was buying clothes one day and the cashier detagged them and forgot to scan one and i didnt say anything... didnt really notice at the time think it was a fiver... different if its a small cornershop or something...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

Im rarely fully aware in queues... like a good section of my brain clicks off. Im rarely conscious of whats going into my bag, never mind if its free or not...

That said, if i did snap back into reality and noticed an item that hadnt been scanned, id mention it without question.

I know this might sound silly but I think the feeling you get when you point out their mistake is far better than actually taking what ever it may be.

I probably wouldn't notice. I don't check my change either.

Not silly at all...I much prefer the pride in my honesty when alerting the staff member to their error than the nervous glances I would be making over my shoulder waiting any minute for alarms to go off or a security guard to grab me if I didn't say anything....

Obviously I'd tell them. Pigheads no thief.
However, If I were on an aeroplane and a girl was walking down the aisle back from the toilet, and the back of her dress was tucked into the top of her knickers I'm afraid to say I wouldn't tell her. Absolutely not.

It all depends on what the thing is. One day i was buying some stuff in argos and an item i hadn't purchased was put with my stuff. Yer one signed everything off the receipt and just left me to take away the goods. Best feeling ever, like an unspoken thank you for being such a loyal customer, Mind you, i didn't go in there again for a quite a while, you know, til all the sheeat blew over :)

I was in blanchardstown a couple of years ago looking at c.ds in virgin , I left the shop went to another shop looked in me bag and there was a Madonna c.d in the bag , I panicked because the alarm never went off in virgin , but I thought they might have seen me, so I went back with it .SO EMBARRISING Madonna I ****ing hate Madonna , if it had of been somebody else I would have done a legger.

No I wouldn't tell them, If they didn't notice the item and didn't scan it in than they're not doing their job properly, its not my problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭bluto63

Don't most places keep the actual DVD behind the counter and have to put it in the box as you purchase it?

But if that is not the case i suppose i'd tell em.

Nah theres no way I'd tell them. Its a victimless crime. The only victim is the shop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭fuzzywiggle

    Leg it.

Tell them! Not a thief. I do pay very close attention to the scanner, because sometimes you fail to get a sale, and have to remind them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,399 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

Tell them of course. It's called honesty.

...and we all know that honesty is the best policy...

    Had to be said:D :o

haha the other day i was in a coffee shop with my friend and it was one of those places where you get the reciept and have to go up to the pay desk thingy and pay for your meal confused but as we were on our way up to it we saw some friends and went over to talk to them.then we just walked out!-we had completely forgotten to pay!!but the thing is we didnt realise until later that evening.we were still in the area so could have gone back but why would we??we werent hurting anyone by not paying!anyway, tbh its the shops fault for having that stupid way of paying!i would say loads of people dont pay in that place!!!

Take it and your reciept. Go out if by chance you get caught you can just explain that you have bought the items and if they ask to see your reciept you can say you didnt know they didnt scan it - their mistake not yours

was shopping today and the first thing that happened was the cashier scanned a pair of jeans TWICE...so i told her (obviously!), then in a different shop the cashier forgot to scan a pair of shoes..but i told her coz otherwise I'd have a guilty conscience!!

spoken like a seasoned pro :D

would absolutely do a legger especially if it was somewhere like tesco or argos. Stealing from corporations is not stealing - corporations are by their very nature evil, so it is our given right to rip them off.
On the otherhand I would be completely honest if it was the local corner shop (not that that really exists anymore, but you know what I mean)

*sits and waits for the barrage of criticisms from the do-gooders :D *

in the supermarket i wouldn't bother to be honest - we're getting ripped off by them so they damn well deserve it.

if it was in any of the local shops i'd definitely tell them - for example there's a guy who runs a menswear shop who'll order anything you want for you, i'd never do it to him. but then again, he takes pride in his work and wouldn't be that careless as to not scan something.

It's always amusing to watch humans try and justify something that is clearly wrong.

The fact seems to be that not only would the majority steal if they weren't going to get caught, but they'd also be proud of themselves to some degree.

Such is the free will of humans. We can DO ANYTHING.
