my neighbour asked me about the FTA boxes and how they work.
i thought it might run off the same dish you use for sky. would i be correct?
and what's the deal with needing cards for them?
are they legal over here, or do you have to get them from some dodgy shop?

Right, they work similarly to Sky box, except won't show encrypted channels.

THey can and do run off the same dish that Sky use.

They cannot use cards (though there are boxes with CI slots for other paytv services, not Sky though), thus they're called FTA (Free To Air) only receiving channels that are available freely, unencrypted.

Yes, they're very much legal here. Most electrical retailers should stock them.

Above link will give you an idea as to the channels that can be got with an FTA box, using Astra 2 (same position Sky use).

Not quite, just none anyone wants :p

The Wrestling Channel is Irish; theres Sky News Ireland; and Bubble Hits has confirmed it'll be FTA (and its Irish too)
