Sides cut off screen

I've noticed this, not only in my house, but on my friends TVs too. There is a portion of the picture on both sides of the screen cut off, which is noticable, whenever there's text on the screen. Are the settings on my screen wrong, or is it a problem with Sky in general? It's a Sharp widescreen LCD if that's any help.

Is your box set to send the picture in 4:3 or 16:9?
