    What Dreams May Come...

    Ive heard a lot of negativity for it but i love it, one of the few films that inspire any kind of real emotion from me ;_;

top gun...the planes are class but the gayness is waaaaaaaaaayyy ott

Freddy vs Jason - God help me, I love it.

Also, *ahem* AVP - Okay, I know it's not that good, but I get a warm tingly feeling seeing Aliens and Predators on the same screen!

Actually just thinking, the common denominator of the two films is that they are cross-overs...maybe it's just seeing my favourite characters share the same screen, no matter how bad it is!

I would have said it was the other way round. Too much planes and not enough gay action. But yeah, quality film.

I would say Starship Troopers 2, but to be honest, I thought it was a fairly kickass film with superb SFX at the time and I still do, hammy acting aside.

Maverick! you now the one with Mel gibson and a very fine looking Jodie foster. How long before someone says something like Pulp Ficition, how embarassing Id almost die if anyone found out(i.e. a film that is not a bit embarassing). Or the thread is locked because its another list thread with no discussion?

No, thats just sooooooo bad, its depressing! What an movie so epic-ly crap is scale, the sci-fi equivilent of "Cut Throat Island".

I hate Ferris Buellers day off with a passion, and not because its a cliched movie, simply because I think it's a crap film! Maverick, that's ok though, although I haven't seen it in along time....it used to be on TV alot, haven't seen it on in ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JP Mulvano

I know, I know. I can't help myself I actually enjoy watching it.

It's cheesy, badly acted, SPX are crap and the storyline is a disaster....come on learning to fly Harrier jets in a few hours!!

I know all this but I'll still watch it if it's on.

If Only - one of these romatic things but I really liked it and it had Love Hewitt. Also liked Heartbreakers for the same reasons.
AvP - this was slated but it had aliens and predators.
10 Things... - another one of those rom-coms that gets past the deflector shield. Jil Gunger also did If Only so I might check out more of his work.
American Werewolf In Paris - I actually preferred this to the original.
Jason X - Jason in space, man these writers run out of ideas but it had some of the best/gruesome death scenes you will see in a movie.
Far and Away - I think all of Ireland hated this but I really liked it.

I actually wrote a treatment for the next movie by the guy who directed that.... but I don't think he ever actually worked again... so much for my holywood dreams....

I'm going to go with Josie and the Pussycats the Movie... I absolutely love it and everyone should give it a chance!

There's no shame in liking Ferris Beuller's Day Off, it's a great film. Ditto Maverick.

For me it's Clueless. Yeah, I know, but it always puts a grin on my face. I can't help it.

Highlander is a cracking good movie, I don't think anyone could describe it as a bad film....well not one they're ashamed of (ok maybe the accents are terrible).

Yeah... one of the few films where Sean Connery's scottish accent would have fitted in, but they go and make his character a Spaniard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JP Mulvano

Yeah what the hell was that about!!

I think he still had a scottish accent anyhow.

Starship troopers yep - starship troopers 2 no way ! I have seen episodes of fair city with better special effects than the 2nd one.

    Mine would be Tommy Boy

    - a big fat stupid film, that film is completely formulaic and still has me in stitches each time, the 'ran over a deer and put it in the back seat of a vintage mustang' scene. The carpenters on the radio scene, that movie was class! Lots of great fun (in a cow tipping kind of way).

Also the Firm - I actually thought hype aside that that one wasnt THAT bad.

Armageddon - Superb movie. Excellent action film.

    Godzilla - Ditto

Battlefield Earth, AVP and Cruel Intentions, amongst a lot more, hehe.

Ferris Buellers Day Off is class.
    Highlander is class.
All Star Trek films are class.
    :)

Edit: Oh and are guys supposed to love True Romance?

Edit: Oh and are guys supposed to love True Romance?

Yeah, what a classy film! Title a tad misleading to those that have never seen it (although that is unlikely, most people at least know what its about)
starship troopers 2 no way ! I have seen episodes of fair city with better special effects than the 2nd one.

I suspect people like to jump on the bandwagon with this one, or I wonder if they've even actually seen the movie - the special effects in SST2 were done by the same crowd that did the effects for the first movie, and are just as good if not better in some instances then the first film. Obviously the first film is miles better but regarding sfx, it really bugs me when people starting saying comments like the above...

And let nobody say "They used the same shots from the first movie", the only shots used from the first movie was in an opening recruitment type movie, the other 85 minutes were 100% original, another example of people who comment on the movie without obviously either seeing or or just following what some other guy says....

    Maximum Overdrive.
    I love this movie.
" Curtis, is he dead Curtis"(As voiced by Lisa Simpson)
Fantastic 80's crappy acted film written/directed by Stephen King and has an AC/DC soundtrack!

I have seen it but cant help thinking were talking about different films here.

    THEY LIVE

Class!!, ****ty acting, ****ty special effects but I like the story and its analogy
to real society and it has classic Carpenter style music!!!

    PRINCE OF DARKNESS
Same as above apart from the society analogy.

Oh yeah Duel , one of Spielbergs early films , was said to give him ideas about JAWS ??
    dunno but good film anyway.

Well all I am saying is that the special effects are done by the same crowd, who did the special effects for movies like Blade, Starship Troopers, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Constantine, The Matrix, and countless others, so its hardly accurate to say SST2 has special effects "Worse than an episode of Fair City."

Yes, SST2 is unbelievably cheap, the sets are appalling, the acting is mostly terrible, it was shot in 30 days on a budget of only a few million compared to the massive 70+ million budget of the first movie, but the special effects themselves, I still think, are great.

The scene where the Arachnid impales the medic through the head is one of the coolest special effects shots I've ever seen!! Although I will concede the kinda laser rifle thing they went for on the guns is cringingly bad.

All I would say to that is if you hire the same company for different jobs - pay them different amounts of money your going to get different results.

The name/reputation of the company doesnt mean much when they put their talented people on premier (and high paying) projects and also have a sideline in low end pieces of crap.

Ok fair city was an exaggeration but not by much. I rented sst2 because despite the crappy cheap looking cover I figured it was a reasonable movie franchise and 'couldnt be that bad'. I was wrong it turned out to be much worse than I expected - and didnt really deserve to be part of that franchise imo.

Mean Girls and the fast and the furious (say what you want about the sequels, i think the first one's story is fairly strong.)

To be fair I've never hid my liking for the films, I'm not ashamed in the slightest, they're just two that would usually be slated around these parts... and i think they are great!

Two legendary films. CARPENTER IS A GENIUS. Simple as that. And who would have thought rowdy roddie piper could give a performance that was actually passable as acting?
