Pub watering down beer...

I'm convinced one of my local pubs is watering down their beer. Lets just say my pint of Heino looked suspiciously like a Bud even though I saw it coming out of the Heineken tap.

What do I do? (apart from drink somewhere else but it IS a very small town) Who do I report it too?

I hate to be a snitch but we pay enough for the stuff. :(

Correct you if you're wrong?? Are you saying it's not possible to water down the beer?

the keg goes threw pipes to the tap easy enough to mix water in with it along the way

I seriously doubt they're watering down the beer. Why would they risk it?

You never know. One of the pubs in my villiage does that with the Fosters and the Heiniken, but I suppose I'm lucky because there's still 2 more pubs.

Is there anyone you can report it to? And what would happen if you did? It's not as though they're gonna lose their licence if you reported them.

I'd just forget about them and not drink there.

I worked as a barman for three years during college and most weekends I had some obnoxious punter shouting in my face that our establishment was watering down the pints.

I can honsetly say it didn't happen. In fact, I wouldn't even know how it can be done.

Sure some pub owners are gangsters. But if a drunk customer was making this accusation against a barman, I'd side with the barman every time.

Having worked in several bars, I've never seen any shady stuff going on. Why risk it? Bars make plently of profit already

Maybe they connected a Budweiser keg to the wrong line?

It normally wouldn't have been possible, unless Murphys have changed their bayonets to be the same as the Guiness brand ones.
They would have to have a bayonet head on the end of the line spliced in that would fit Guiness. If reps see this type of a setup the taps would be pulled on an establishment.
This type of stuff is not standard but there definitely are pubs out there with elaborate cheating systems installed.

I would imagine that it is more likely that the pub bought in their beer from northern ireland which has a weaker strength and hence how it lokks like bud. It would hardly be worth the effort to water down beer as it would be so awkward would be and is alot more viable to water down spirits. Of course buying in kegs from the north is illegal(when being used in the pub trade)

Hello folks, this is my first post here. Hope I can help.

As far as I know sudzs, Customs and Excise have officers who can enter an establishment and check that the correct spirit measures are being given to punters and they are the right alcoholic content fof the product. I'm not so sure if it's the same for beer though.

I think if you're really concerned about it, you could contact the Revenue Commisioners or the Dept. of Finance. I'm not sure which the C & E comes under. They should be able to help you.

its very possible that a keg of bud was fitted to the heineken tapping head ( same fitting ), i remember one time some gob****e tapped a keg of ale to a carlsberg line , brown carlsberg all round !!!!

as for watering down the pints i would say that it is 99.99999999% probable that its not happening.

could also be that the lines were just cleaned, they are rinsed with water, washed with detergent and re-rinsed with water, so if they were just cleaned its possible that was a bit of water still in the line although the guys who clean them normally through enough pints after cleaning to wash out any water.

I thought that was done by Gardaí from the Weights and Measures section?

Are Murphys and Guiness using the same head now? They were always different, the murphys one went over the keg and the guiness one used go into the keg, they were totally different.
