    Hi All,
Just have recieved a quote for the raft foundation for a four bedroom house in Mayo. The house is going to be timber frame. The total cost of the raft was 18.5k plus Vat,this includes the stone for the driveway in,its not a big driveway. The site is flat and the land is not marshy.Seems really high just for foundations or is this the norm?

    HI Barry,

I suppose it would depend on the size of the house. I paid €23,300 inc vat for a raft last year (also in mayo) and the bulk of the siteworks were completed, i.e. site level and filled with hardcore. It was about 3,600 sq. ft and done as part of a full contract by a builder.

Hope this gives an indication but I would suggest getting a number of quotes.

Remember you will also have to get your raft certified and this will cost about €700 euro if memory serves me rightly.

    Thanks
I will go and get a few different quotes, and see what comes back. The house size is 2400 sq ft.The raft is 8.1m x 13.9m.By doing it labour only and suppling the materials yourself would this save a few quid.

First, the area of the raft is about 1200 sq.ft. Is this correct, i.e. a two storey house.

If thats the case then the quote seems high.

I really don't think you'll save much by going the labour and materials route and remember the job is really a speciallist one. You need someone who knows what they're doing with all the steel etc.

I know my main contractor employed a "raft specialist". I would know of one or two of these in the central/east mayo area and I can give you details if you pm me.
