So what is your favourite Irish county and why?

Rules: You cannot pick the county you were born in or have lived most of your life in.

I would have to say my favourite county has to be Wicklow! I spent many happy days and nights camping in Wicklow, beautiful scenery, great make-out spots...happy times :D

For me its dubland much better than that sh!thole Kilkenny.

Galway. There's a real bohemian feel to the city, especially in the summer. And it's one of the few Irish countys that doesn't seem to have a massive chip on its shoulder when it comes to Dublin people.

    Wicklow.

Its beside Dublin, has beautiful mountains and scenary, and its beside Dublin...

it's a toss up between the mountains of Wicklow and the people in Armagh.

cork people are nice too, but a certain b&b owner in rathcormack ruined it for me.

Gotta be Mayo for me, great scenery some great pubs and kind of an arty community that seems to be a well kept secret.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭Heyes

Kerry without a doubt, it has to be one of the most beautiful counties in ireland, and the people are some of the nicest this wee country of ours has to provide.

Donegal FTW! Born and bred here and love it! Hate to leave the county for too long :D

I think the OP requested that you didn't include the county you were born in or live in. :)

also really like dingle alot; driving through the burren; car broke down in bray once as well and wasn't very convenient at the time but appreciate it now, quaint little town :)

    Each unique.

Probably Kerry. Its so nice and serene, although I lived there for a month and nearly cracked up listening to the accent (sorry, if I offend anyone :o!).

Wexford because I think it is a quieter county than others in Leinster and SE. Fewer traffic-jams that other counties too except on Hill St... ... which has far too many traffic lights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭Agamemnon

Donegal as well. The pubs and the scenery are perfect, and hearing the Donegal accent from the mouth of a nubile young lady gives me an instant erection.
I'll probably be at this year's Mary From Dungloe fest if any other Donegal enthuasiasts here are going. Maybe we could arrange a boards beer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,890 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

    Carlow!

ah no honestly got to say Clare, lovely part of the country

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

Galway City is clearly the win, but the rest of the county is a bit... "meh"
Cork seems nice from what i've seen of it (especially West Cork)
Clare is a lovely place though, easily my favourite.

Galway. Second best place on Earth. Good pubs, cafe's, people, geography. Love salt hill and hiking in connemara.

There's only one lovely county and thats LOVELY LEITRIM :D But I have to say Wicklow (Spent a bit of my childhood there) & Galway (Well Galway city and Salthill...) are my favourite counties. Clare is not too bad either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 703 ✭✭✭ThrownAway

I haven't been to every single county but from the ones I have been to I like...
    Kerry - For it's scenery
    Cork - For the people
    Dublin - For shopping

    I don't have a favourite really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭joe_chicken

For the scenery and all round loveliness, the garden of Ireland has it for me.

    I'm a sucker for Glendalough

But for people, pubs and general good times... Galway.

It really is a lovely town
