Looking for places to buy MC22

    Hi All,

Do any of you know what dealers would be best when looking for a CBR250.

I had a beautiful one last year (Fireblade paint scheme) but was stupid enough to leave it outside the house for 10 minutes unlocked and someone did a Barry Scott on it, "Bang and the bike is gone!"

Anywho I'm now looking to get a second one but they seem harder to come by. The fact that I'm trying to find one in really good condition, hopefully just imported, doesn't help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

One thing to look out for is the reg year.....afaik they stopped making cbr250's in either 94 or 96(clarify anyone?)....but you'll regularly see people riding around on 98/99 reg bikes.

Remember its not the year of registration that goes on the plate...but year of manufacture....so if somebody tries sell you a cbr250 with a newer plate, they're tring to get a few bob off the unaware for it...esp if its just imported.

Fwiw the majority of cbr owners dont even know this, so it may well be a genuine mistake on their part if it's second hand...but i would take it for granted anyone importing vehicles knows the machine and what they want inside out....else i wouldn't be buying off them in any case as they haven't a clue what they're importing.

Would you buy a skyline or rx-7 off an importer who knew nothing about them and what to look for in a good one as opposed to a sh*theap?

Fwiw if you're going to pay 3k or so for a decent cbr250, why not pay 6k(if you can afford it) and get a new factory restricted sv650 from england? Insurance group 5, and warranty will be valid. It'll last you learning-curve wise longer than a cbr250 as you can derestrict it when your restriction period is over.

Afaik meskells in limerick usually have cbr250's in stock, and do parallel import sv650's for about 7500...or at least that was in 05..prices may have dropped/risen.

Here's a few bike shops that do grey imports of CBR250's:
    Redline rathdrum: http://www.redlinemotorcycles.net/
    Bray Honda Centre: http://www.brayhondacenter.com/i
    Gorey Bikes: http://www.goreybikes.com/

    Lots of others around Dublin...

Gorey bikes is probably your best bet. They have about 5 listed at the moment.

    Try megabikes in camden street.

CBR250's were sold brand new up until 1996. Buying one from a dealer is always going to be expensive, because they put out the best power/insurance group ratio so that is why dealers charge a fair bit for them!!

I owned one last year, if i was in your position i would get one that has been driven regulary in this country for at least 6 months. CBR250's can be sitting in warehouses in japan for a years upon years before they are shipped over here. It can lead to a lot of niggley problems for the first few months, which is what happened to me. Gunk in the carbs, cracked fuel lines, brake seals going etc...... Once you get through these little niggley bits sorted tho, they are pretty indestructable........which is why i will probably be buying another one soon :D

Umm where you get that from, which plate are you talking about? The year on the reg plate is well umm the year the bike was first registered AFAIK

Don't go for SV :) My friend can't keep up to me on his UNRESTRICTED SV :D Ok, ok, he can, but only on straight. :p
    Here's my BabyBlade ;)

Thats probably down to your friends riding style rather than the bike. After moving up to an Sv after a 250 I was amazed at the torque the SV has. Personally if I had the money I'd go for a restricted CBR 600 and rather than a 250

Thanks lads. I appreciate the feedback. :D

I hadn't even considered an SV.

Ideally I'd love to save the extra bit of cash and go for the restricted CBR600.

What's putting me off though is what I've read about insurance companies only accepting factory restrictions. Would this not mean that I would have to buy a brand new CBR600 as second hand ones are so hard to find?

Does anybody have any experience with this?

You would need to buy a brand new cbr600 restricted, you won't find a second hand one yet!

If you do go the restricted sports 600 route, the restrictions on the gixxer are the easiest of all the restricted bikes to *cough* fall out *cough* ;)

tried to get a restriced cbr600 last year, was looking for ages but nothing turned up, I think you are looking at about 9 or 10k for 1 new, there are a lot of gixxers that are restriced on bikebuyersguide, again hitting the 9k new (not sure what you woudl be paying for 1 a few years old)
