I heard it said many times on the Simpsons, but tonight really got my curiosity bone working, which ad were they talking about in the sexual harrasment Simpsons? when Homer says

Homer: well remember that postcard we got off Grandma from Florida where an aligator bit a girls butt?

Bart: oh yeah, that was brilliant

Homer: yeah yeah we all had a laugh, but it turns out that aligator was sexually harrassing that woman

Bart: and the dog in the Coppertone ad; same thing?

Homer: that's more of a grey area

what ad is it, I can't find it on youtube, all I can get is a re-enactment with Mark Wahlburg

It is as monkeyfudge says a picture of a dog pulling at a girls bikini because she's been using the suntan lotion. Actually I'm not even sure how the suntan lotion fits in other than it's sunny and she has a tan.

seriously though? I wonder about people who will spend the time to start a thread on a random, meaningless subject then to just go to google, and as they are thinking it type "dog coppertone ad" and hit search. Only after extensive searching on a topic will I take the effort to post a thread about it.

I think it's the fact that the dog is revealing how she doesn't have a lovely tan under her trunks where the lotion isn't being worn, so that we know she isn't naturally that colour.

It seems to be a traditional iconic image for the company... like the baby in the washing machine with Fairy Washing Up Liquid.
