So I have a friend who is dedicated in giving this a shot. He wants to go to the open day one wednesday in Assets Model agency? Does anyone know what this consists of basically and if it is intimidating or not? Does anyone have any advice for him?

Personally I hope he goes in there and they tell him to **** off! Ah no only messing...haha

Basically you turn up, wait for 10-20 minutes, and get seen by the resident 'expert'. He/she tells you whether or not you can be used and/or suggests catwalk or advertisisng work (or both).

Then (now this is the kicker) advises that you get professional shots done by their recommended photographer, for the low fee of €120+. Without these professional shots, they won't sign you up.

Now your mate might be the next Johnny Depp and they may bypass all that crap and volunteer to sponsor the photographer's fee.. but I've rarely heard of that happening.

I'd recommend he joins movieextras.com - a lot of work can come through them if he is generically usable. Also check out the Compton Agency

All information was gathered from various friends who have gone down the 'I want to be a superstar model route' :D

Are you serious? Ok so did any of them pay for these professional shots? And also, do you know anything about Compton Agency? I heard that Assets and First Option were the main players...?

Thanks a lot for the very helpful info.

Well to be honest if you're in any way serious on getting into modeling or acting you really do need professional shots.

^That's what I was thinking...the guy is very goodlooking(not in my league but who is :D), i can say it, he is my friend and I ain't gay...but some of the lads on the site aren't what you would call goodlooking...they just have funky chins or something...kind of hard to explain.

Bear in mind it's quite easy to become a model. You don't need to be amazingly good looking at all to do it. Getting work is the more difficult part. I did modelling when I was younger, and was thinking of going back for the laugh. Also considered the open day at Assets, but might just make an appointment.

With regards Compton, I know a guy with them who isn't good looking at all, but don't know if that means much. Also, as I'd imagine with most agencies, you have to sign an agreement where you'll only model with them.

If I get any more info I'll let you know.

When you sign to an agency they usually do require that you sign exclusively to them, but those 'contracts' make for good bog roll most of the time

A lot of peeps did pay for the prof shots, as it may be a pre requisit (sp ch) for some hiring clients, and it'll stand to you in the longterm if this is really what ya wanna do. I personally didn't like the whole - yes we think you'll make a lot of money, but 1st you'll have to pay us a handsome sum

As far as looks go.. there is no 'good looking' man, what happens is if you fit a profile ie. Sporty looking, tall(ish), with an average mug then you could get a lot of work doing ads for everything from Banks to Sports drinks to Suit Shops. For catwalk stuff you will have to basically fit the Hoff profile :D

Compton apparently have more guys on their books than anyone else and therefore should be able to get guys more work - but that could be industry rumour bollocks.

As I said, movieextras.com may seem crappy but you'll get a far greater return for your €45 than nearly any other place.

I worked with a guy who was "spotted" by a woman who works for Assets. She gave him her card on the bus and told him to come see her the following day as she wanted to sign him.

He "couldn't find" the agency despite having the card with him, complete with address and phone number.

Now he really was model material.. :p
