MPEG-4 support for DVB card?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting on (or whether it should be a computing topic)...

My Pinnacle PCTV Sat PCI card can't pick up an MPEG-4 or DVB-S2 signal. Understandable since its software is old. But is there any way I could get it to work? It can pick up MPEG-2 HD.

It's irrelevant to the card if you are watching an mpeg2/4 SD/HD channel - all the processing is done by the CPU or GPU. The card is DVB-S so can't view DVB-S2 channels.

There are some limited MPEG2 HD DVB-S promos being transmitted:

The BBC MPEG4 HD stream is still in DVB-S, so with enough processing power (~3GHz) and suitable codecs (coreavc or powerdvd7) and viewer (DVBdream) your card is usable.

    DVBdream is not freeware.

DVBviewer GE (doesn't support pinnacle anyways) isn't free either. However there is an unofficial HD version of ProgDVB knocking around which is free and might be worth trying out.

Thanks for that. I'd assume DVB-S2 is a hardware implementation then?

New DVBs2 sat card and at least X1600 graphics or similar/better and 3GHz Pentium / 3500+ AMD or better.

On a souped up 2.4GHz Celeron the MPEG2 HD demos barely run. Unusable.

    Excellent updat on the Wiki!!
