Basically you need to decide for yourself what type of focus you want the team to have and what you're goals would be. Then you just need to get a bunch of like minded people together and give it a go. How exactly you go about doing investigations will depend really on what you want to achieve with them. Keep in mind that they don't need to be perfect right from the start. Just come up with some ideas of what you want to try, then go somewhere and try them and learn what works for you and what doesn't.

Yep I got confued alright ;)

    Anyway:

ok kshiel would like to help on this as much as I can, great to see more groups forming ;)

Obviously there are certain practical things that are needed for most investigations and some other more specialist equipment, but none of this needs to break the back. Heres what I like to bring along on an investigation:

    Warm Clothes
    Lighter
    Note Book
    Pens and Pencils
    Torch
    Canon Powershot 1.3MP Digital Camera
Pentax Optio 50L 5MP Digital Camera
Pentax K1000 fully manual camera with flash gun
Sony TRV14 miniDV HandyCam with Night Vision
    New unrapped Tapes
    Tripod
    Walkie Talkies
    Batteries
Charger for batteries and video camera
    Crystal
    Snacks
    Matches and Tea Light Candles

Obviously some of this depends on the location.

Another point liek Steven said is what really is your reason for doing them? Is it to experience and document paranormal happenings? Or is to Investigated and research the Paranormal. Their can be a world of difference for some people between the spiritual and the scientific but theres no reason you cant get a good mix of the two.

best of look and if you want a recommendation for where to get equipment or any other advice just pm or mail me ;)

I recently bought two new items for my kit:

A Cell Sensor EMF meter & A Laser Thermometre. To be honest the Thermometer wasnt the smartiest buy as it measures contact temperature i.e. surface of a wall, table etc. It would be best to have something to measure air temperature in a particular area to pick up cold spots.

Now we can just use this thread :)

Is it to experience and document paranormal happenings?

as i too am gearing up to be part of the team concerned, personally it'd be for documentation. really a bit of both as more experience helps you document better.

can anyone use a crystal or do you need to be atuned to such things?

To be honest anyone can use one, just go get one that feels right and practice.

well it looks like myself and my house are on right track so. Great advice guys. As for me I am interested in both sides spiritual and scientific. Because most of my experiences have been more spiritual than scientific I would like to reaserach and get out there and see if we can prove what I know to be true and hopefully develope a few new skills along the way.

It would be great if you could recommend some places to buy equipment 6th have looked up a few but like to keep my options open.

well i get my stuff from www.tomsgadgets.com really quick service and he's in teh UK and the end of a phone if you need him. Plus he doesnt overly push the whole ghosties & Ghoulies side of thing as a gimmick.

Ebay is a good source of something but i like to have a bit of confidence in who i'm buying from. Plus handy to build up a relationship with a place if you plan on having a long invoilvement in the area.

Do you have any kind of equipment you could use already i.e. camera etc?

i have an emf meter (likes yours in fact - cell sensor), a video camera, access to a digital camera, access to a sony nightvision video camera and audio recording gear

I found Tom to be brilliant - I'd certainly buy from him again. :)

I want to look at investing in a digital EMF meter at some point, however as I think that that device may be a little more accurate... there is a lot of other stuff I'd like too, but I need to be aware of spluging money on sites like this.

As it stands, I got pipped to the post on eBay for a Tricorder; it went from 300 USD up to 600, then the bugger ended up winning with 610 at the last minute! :(

Upon reflection, I am glad I didn't win the auction... my wallet would have taken a severe bruising. :o

Well I have posted an e-mail on some kits they have on the site. No reply just yet. Understanding on the spluging money as they seem to have such great stuff and off course want it all. Guess I will just start small and build up over time. Good tips on the equipment front. Thanks

Yeah dont rush into buying up stuff, do a couple of investigations before you start to spend. I'd say stick withyour own senses and a camera for the first one.

I'd love to get into ghost investigations too, can anyone join in or do you neewd experience? I could drive if you guys needed a loft I've a car. Do you really believe in ghosts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

No we dont believe in ghosts this whole forum is just a laugh:rolleyes:

Anyone can get into it of course, bit of preparation like getting your own beliefs straight in your head really helps. Then its a case of finding some people with similar interests.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭my_house

i'd say many of us would probably have our own ideas of exactly what the word 'ghost' means (hmm... theres an idea for a thread)

Sorry that sounded stupid I don't really know if I do, like a lot of the shows seem real but I'm a bit suspicious.

thats what annoys me about those shows ... they cheapen the whole field by leaving it open to justified ridicule as people begin to believe shows like Most Haunted are real rather than nighttime entertainment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

There are plenty of threads on Paranormal TV shows and Most Haunted in particular so i wont go off topic here.

How are the plans for this team going? get in tpouch if your interested in coming along on a trip with us sometime.

everythings moving along nicely. currently doing a bit of research and hopefully we'll get a few leaflets knocked around soon to see what the local feeling towards the paranormal is .....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

leaflets? Do you think its wise to go public before you've done some investigations?

Doing a bit of "underground" networking is probably the way if you can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭my_house

naw, i think the leaflets purpose should be more in line of advertising some kind of online survey - this is just an idea we havent actually discussed this yet - that way we can see if theres anyone about whose into the paranormal and build up a team.

Put it like this, if a leaflet landed in my door asking me to check out a locally run website and see if I think im 'psychic' or not, I'd check it out of curiousity. If the paranormal was not my bag, i wouldnt bother. but at the same time we could remain anonymous enough and still see what we get through the survey* which in turn might leat us find people for the team we mightnt have found in the first place.

personally I'd avoid private investigates to be honest. not always a good idea, plus its better to hone ones skills on public buildings like hospitals, old nursing homes and big old estates. thats what I reckon anyway. :D

    * Ive no idea what kind of 'survey'.

Are there any shops down your way that would be like House of Astrology in Dublin (if you know it)? Also sticking a leaflet up in the local library might be cheaper tha canvasing your area and may turn up some interesting people.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭my_house

the interest in the paranormal is an unknown quantity in carlow. posters in libraries are a good idea too, though what the whole thing will be saying is very much up for some thought. It's how to present the fact we're trying to set up something I think that we'll need to work out. i like the idea of integrating a website and using the posters etc just advertise the existance of the site itself.

I think a few core member like yourself and ksiels need to do a little brain storming and deceide what it is you guys want froma group before y ou go looking for more members.

myself i'm not part of a "team" I do work with some of the same people each time but i feel i'm not really ready for a set group. I want to know more about what i expect from it all first.
