Cork - Limerick question.

Just a quick question - traveling from Cork Airport, going to Limerick, do I have to go along the Kinsale road and through the city, or is there another route? I heard something about heading out in the direction of Bishopstown or something, is there just the one route or what?
Did two separate route planners, but I'm not too sure how often these are updated.
I'm reasonably familiar with Cork, but I'd rather avoid the city centre if possible for obvious reasons.
How would traffic be at 11.45am on a Tuesday, any idea?
    Thanks.

you can go round the south ring, thru the tunnel turn left and head into city....turn onto north ring at the Silversprings Hotel (beware you have to turn to the LEFT to turn right...) that will lead you to the start of the N20 for Limerick.....

or you could go left on the south ring but it's complicateed if you dont know it....

When you say the south ring, which exit is that off the kinsale roundabout (coming from the airport)? Is it the west cork direction one, is it the city one...
I know Cork fairly well (but never driven through it, only driving with 8 months) - and I'm pretty sure I know the route along the kinsale road, across the two bridges and left along the docks.
Whichever route you think would be best though, you're from Cork.. Thanks for the reply!

he's trying to avoid the city centre folks..
...go down the airport hill to the huge roundabout that they are building a flyover ...um over...:) take the last exit.....south ring/jack lynch tunnel.....take a left at the roundabout at the end.....head towards city and at Silversprings take slip road....right at top of slip and straight on around North ring , follow Limerick N20 signs...

Billy - Er, thanks - but I've already done two autoroutes taking me the same route. :P

Thanks corktina that sounds like a nice option - Coming up to lunch time this route might be a bit quicker than the city centre too...?
I think I'll head that way, I know that road much better than the south link... Thanks again!

Google Earth is great though, i put the route in and I could follow all the turns by aerial photo!

Yeah... theres no major differences in your route, but bear in mind the Google Earth picture is from 2003 (eg: Ballincollig bypass not finished, Kinsale flyover not started).

You should be fine tho. Far as I know its all correct for Airport -> Limerick.

to bad google earth only covers the main roads though
wish it would also cover primary roads
handy all the same but as you said it ireland on it desperately needs to be updated
